Bedtimes and age (and a question)

Bedtimes and age (and a question)

I have a 5 year old who doesn't conk out until 10-11
He doesn't turn into a cranky monster at all throughout the day and has lots of energy (but not out of control...very well behaved)

I feel like an ass for having a kid of that age go to bed so late but in the same sense.. He's not tired and trying to force him to go to sleep seems silly when he's not even sleepy.

I've even made it a relaxing setting and still - he wants to discuss his day or learn about stuff online with me... While in bed.

He has no issue getting up early either

Anyone else ?
Do I even bother fighting for an earlier bed time?

My mom never let me stay up that late as a kid, so that's why I wonder.

Thoughts?

I don't have experience with this, my kids go to bed early (around 7 pm) but is he up with you, or relaxing in his room/bed? That might make a difference. If he is with you he may be all wound up and less likely to settle down and fall asleep earlier. If he is in his room or bed and still wide awake, might just be his personality or his internal clock.

What time does he wake in the morning? Do you have trouble getting him up for school?

He's in the habit of sleeping with me :(
He's not really wound up and will announce when he's ready to lay down and just likes to chit chat before sleep.
No issues waking him up or anything. He gets up at 7 every day unassisted, cheery. He wakes up and is ready to start the day.

He's a deep sleeper and always seems well rested.

Can you tell I'm jealous of the energy? Chat Icon

I just wonder if the late bedtime is too late for his age.

Does he go to school yet? Not preschool but full day k?

I ask because my DS was a kid who always went to bed late and I had to get him out of the habit when he went to k.

He goes to school from 8-6 now (school and after school program) and HAS to be in bed by 9 or else it is a bad scene. Really should be earlier but we don't have time between getting home, dinner, hw, bath and downtime.

My ped said they have to be in their own rooms, no distractions and to be tough about it.

My bf's youngests are 9&10 and they are in bed between 8-8:30. I am jealous, but we can't do everything that fast.

If he is not suffering in school, then I think it would be ok.

My instinct is to say yes, but if you don't see any negative effects, then maybe not.

One of my DC needs significantly less sleep than the other, and it's amazing how much energy they always have!!
