Long Shot - Anyone looking to adopt a cat?
We went to a birthday party for one of DS' classmates this weekend. It was cold. It was rainy. I looked out the sliding glass doors and there was a beautiful long haired cat wet and matted on the deck. In a casual way I inquired (first time I am meeting these people) about their kitty. They told me that they "inherited" the cat when they bought the house and it is an outside cat. I opened the door a little and the kitty came up to me and started nuzzling my hand. I was sad. I gently suggested maybe in bad weather they could let it in and she kind of shook her head and said I'll give her food and then asked if I wanted "it." The cat clearly was an indoor cat at one point and was very sweet. I have no details and have no idea how old she is and clearly no picture. But if anyone knows anyone that would be interested, let me know and I'll pass it along to the family.

Poor kitty
Maybe you could suggest that they contact some local lost and found groups? Perhaps someone is still looking for the cat.
It IS possible that the cat is a feral who became comfortable with her b/c she feeds her. We have had this happen before when we lived at my parents' house with a couple of cats. They were ferals, we fed them, they got comfortable with us, and we brought them in.

I got the impression that the previous owners of the house left the cat behind when they moved (it was a foreclosure apparently). I makes me sick thinking of this cat sitting outside in the rain looking inside to the house it once lived in
Reminds me of this picture I saw on facebook:

That is the most depressing picture ever and I don't understand how people do that.
