IBS-D Vent

I've always had IBS-D my whole life and most of the time I can control it. However, since giving birth three months ago it has gotten 1000x worse and is to the point where everything causes me to have a flare-up. I feel like all I do is spend my days in the bathroom. To top it off I have horrible hemoroids from being sick all the time. I feel like I'm neglecting my kids because I'm always sick. I take probiotics and they used to help but not anymore. Imodium has also stopped. I'm at my wit's endChat Icon

Im so sorry. Have you seen a gastro? Maybe they can give you something prescribed to help?

Re: IBS-D Vent

I haven't been to one in over a year. I will probably wind up going back.

I work in the field. Where do you live? I can recommend a few to you. You should definitely see doctor for an exam, colonoscopy and tests for lactose intolerance and celiac disease.

There are several pharmaceutical options out there to treat IBS-D. You may also benefit from changing your diet.

You deserve a better quality of life.

I would try to eliminate gluten and dairy and other foods that cause inflammation until your flare up is over. I saw a great wellness dr, named Dr. Christine Gizoni who did kineisology on me to see what foodss to eliminate from my diet. she worked wonders for me and my friends.

I live in Bellmore. I am lactose intolerant so I stay away from dairy and I've been tested for celiac, which came back normal. I'm trying a gluten free diet to see if that helps. I would appreciate any doctor/diet/medication recommendations you have.

Good Luck

Re: IBS-D Vent

I also have IBS and I worked with gastro doctors.

Although there are many with IBS, there are so many variations on what triggers the symptoms, for instance some food might make me miserable but not bother you.

For me, I tried the probiotics which didn't really help, and I have taken Xifaxin, and antibiotic used for travelers diarrhea which helps.

I have been tested for celiac and don't have it. I am unable to drink a glass of milk but if I eat something with cheese on it or eat some ice cream, I'm fine.

Honestly, the BEST thing that worked for me and made a total change is when I went low carb. I don't think its the good carbs like veggies that are the problem, its the sugar. When I stopped eating sugar its like my symptoms went away.

My worst trigger, even worse than food, is stress. When I am stressed out, I am miserable.

ETA: I am assuming that you already had a workup done by a gastro doctor and everythng was ruled out leading to an IBS diagnosis?

If you haven't been seen than I would def go to the doctor and make sure that its not anything else like Crohn's.
Are you losing weight?

Re: IBS-D Vent

I used to have IBS, with a torturous bowel. The only was I was able to remove it from my life was through a complete change in my eating. Even to this day I know if I eat late & heavy, I will pay the next day.

I could barely go anywhere without finding a bathroom at some point.

Definitely speak with your GI Dr. It was a breakthrough when I was DX, 7 years ago.
