Infants and airplanes

Our family is moving to WA next month. When we leave our son will be 6 1/2 months old. I'm nervous about the plane ride. Have your infants been on a plane at that age? How did it go?

Re: Infants and airplanes

Took both boys around that age on a plane. Found it easier for them at that age then as toddlers.
They pretty much slept most of the time. Give a bottle at take off and when landing for their ears.
You are allowed water bottles and powder formula if flying with a baby.

Re: Infants and airplanes

I actually thought flying with an infant was much easier than flying with a toddler.

You can rock the baby, feed the baby, walk around with the baby. I felt like DS didn't mind being on a plane because we were holding him the whole time. He liked that much more than being strapped in a car seat.

When they were toddlers, the plane was a nightmare. They were better being strapped in.

We flew with both boys when they were 9 weeks and then again around 5-6 months and like pps said - it was so easy.

They both slept most of the time and were easy to entertain and stayed put.

We flew at 4, 10 and 15 months. He was great all 3 times. Slept most of the flights and loved to read the safety card when he was awake.

The younger they are the easier it is.

DD1 was 5months for her first plane ride, DD2 was 9 months.

It's SOOO Much easier when they're that little!

We took DD on a plane at 3 months. She had a rough time going because it was around her bed time and she had a hard time falling asleep. But coming back was a peice of cake. She slept from take off to landing without a problem. The flight wasn't too long since it was only to FL

I flew with DD at 10 wks and 5mo. For the most part, she did absolutely great. At 5mo, we went to California and the only time she was fussy was the very last leg of the trip home, from Baltimore to LI (we had a layover). Although I felt bad that I was "that" parents with the screaming baby, considering we had approx 8 hrs of travel already that day, the fact that she struggled for only the last 30 min of it was really quite a blessing. You will be fine!!

Re: Infants and airplanes

We have flown twice so far with DD - she was 5 mos for our trip to AZ and 6 mos to NY (from NC). She did really well, got a lil cranky once or twice but napped in my arms and I nursed her a few times. The only mega meltdown was after we landed and got our rental car...and this was after 8 hours of travel so I could see why she was crying!

Also one tip is to use a baby carrier or ergo carrier, I walked her all the around the airport and got her to fall asleep in there!
