Booking new born pics?
When do you book new born pictures? I read some where when you are 5 months!! Is that true?

How do you book though if technically you can have the baby over a week after your due date? Book it for 2 weeks after due date??

Most photographers will only take a certain amount of newborns per month, so you book in advance. You then get in touch with them after the baby is born to schedule the actual date of the session.
I personally just pencil in the due date on my calendar to keep track and ask parents to contact me within 48 hours of the birth. I only take about 8-10 newborns a month, so if they are born early or late, I can still accommodate within the recommended age range.
ETA: Most of the more popular photographers book very far in advance. I'm booking sessions for December and January already!

Im only 14 weeks, but already booked our photographer, bc it will be holiday season, and shes already booking dec/jan, she took me as an extra in nov as a favor bc we always use her!

ahhhh I'm due end of December!
Dont panic! I'm also not scheduling for a few months due to my own maternity leave  otherwise I'd prob still have some openings for the fall months.
Cant hurt to start researching and send some emails to those you like!

It doesn't hurt to start researching now. This way you can have a feel of who you like and yes Nov-Dec is incredibly busy since most photographers are doing holiday portrait sessions. Many photographers also have incentives for booking early.
And you book for your due date but everyone uses that as a guideline. As stated, many photographers will only take on x amount per month this way if things run earlier/later you can adjust. Babies are typically photographed within 5-10 days of birth sometimes sooner and sometimes later depending on teh style of photographer you use - ex. studio vs more in home lifestyle.

I had a photog booked but it turned out that she could no longer do it and I had to find somene different with less than a month til my due date. Heather from Forever Fireflies was AWESOME. She told me just to email, call or text when I had the baby and we would schedule from there! They are very understanding that you can't really plan the exact delivery day!

We booked ours bec the photographer we wanted only did 4 babes in December. Im 14 weeks tmrw.

Booking new born pics?
I did it around 12 weeks. Newborn sessions typically take longer which is why they book up faster -- and months in advance. You contact them again once the baby is born and then they give you the actual date of the session.

I just booked mine, and im going to be 23 weeks, you have sometime, start researching, and if you find someone that you really like, then book it right away.

I booked at 20 weeks and got who I wanted, but she was almost full. She asked for my due date and put me in for 10 days after. when I am home from the hospital I am supposed to call her so we can come up with a true date.
