Repost- nutritionist specializing in diabetes?

My mom was just diagnosed and she really needs help with learning how to eat to lose weight and be healthy. Can anyone recommend someone who specializes in these types of diets?

I'm not sure where your Mom is located, but when I had Gestational Diabetes I worked with Elissa Feldman, she's associated with Stony Brook and specializes in diabetes nutrition counseling.

If she was just diagnosed, I am surprised the doctor who made the diagnosis didn't send her to one!

I can't remember the name of the one my husband was sent to when he was diagnosed but she was part of West Carver Medical in Huntington. I believe the Nurse I see at the Internal Medicine Annex at Huntington Medical Group is also a Certified Diabetes Educator.

Winthrop has a weight loss program through there endocrinology department. I did it and have list over 180 pounds. I had diabetes that required insulin and now control it with diet and exercise. The class involves shakes and meals to help you lose weight but then teaches you hot to eat right so you can wean off the shakes and meals.
