Silver Linings Playbook

I always read the book first. Movie versions tend to leave out a lot since they have to condense an entire book down to a certain time.

Like the Harry Potter books. While I enjoyed the movies and watching the plot and characters come to life, to me the books were just so much better.

ETA: I finished reading Silver Linings Playbook a few weeks ago, still haven't watched the movie.

That's usually my stance, too. My friend dropped off the DVD last night though and it's so tempting. I just DLed the book on my nook though, so I'll probably start it this evening.

What'd you think of the book?

I read Silver Linings Playbook back in December and still haven't seen the movie. I've heard that it was really good!

If I could do it over I'd see the movie first - b/c compared to the book, the movie was TERRIBLE (IMO at least) I was SO in love w/ the book and SO disappointed w/ the movie

I'm the opposite of most.

If I have never read the book, I opt to watch the movie first. I do that because oftentimes, the movie leaves a lot out and alters the storylines in order to be able to adapt it to film and then I don't enjoy the movie so much. I find that when I watch the movie first, I enjoy both the movie and the book so much more because I see them as two stand-alone things.

Never thought of it that way!

But then I can't be all smug and whisper "That didn't happen in the books!" to the annoyed moviegoers around me. Chat Icon

I started the book last night and it's much different than what I was expecting. So far, it's pretty sad. Chat Icon I'm about 1/3 of the way through- it's a VERY quick read.

So I just watched the movie last night and I really didn't like it. Chat Icon I was surprised since it's so raved about! The dance competition was pretty funny, but I didn't really enjoy the rest of the movie. I actually kind of stopped paying attention towards the end. They changed SOOOOOOO much from the book.

Just finished the book and liked it...

Was definitely a very quick read.

Wanted to see the movie but now that everyone is saying it is so different from the book, I don't know if I want to see it anymore. Chat Icon

I was seriously disappointed. Chat Icon I'm not usually like that- I can usually keep the books and tv/movies separate enough to enjoy them both, but I really didn't like the liberties they took with it. I hated Robert DeNiro's character- he was just about the polar opposite of his father in the book.

THANK YOU !!! I was SO enraged by this and just kept Chat Icon Chat Icon it's like they cast DeNiro as the father and changed the entire story to be centered around him - They family wasn't italian in the book, there was not random 'bookie' who was the Dad's BFF, there was no business deal etc etc - so so so LAME - What? DeNiro AMAZING actor that he is can't play a cold, removed Irish father? Give me a break !!

Seriously. Half the story was about his and his father's relationship or lack there of! It reaalllyyy bothered me.

Even the ending was the exact opposite of what happened in the book- can't there be a Hollywood movie where the woman is wrong and admits it? Or is the man supposed to always be the hero who messes up at first but swoops in and saves the day?
