What to do?

I work PRN in a hospital at the moment. I applied for a fulltime & part time position in the same dept doing the same job. I will probably end up with the part time position but..... I will have to take a pay cut not sure of the amount yet, will have guaranteed hours every week, PTO, benefits (I don't need).

So would you take the part time or stay as a PRN for the $$? There have only been a few weeks over the past year where I have only worked 1 or no shifts. But they will be hiring more PRN's I'd have to fight them for the open shifts.

As I type this I think I've answered my own question but I'm still wondering what you would do?

Re: What to do?

I would probably go for the P/T position, since it sounds more stable. Also who knows, but maybe they would eventually make it into something F/T.

Is there any way you can negotiate a pay raise with some of the amount that would go towards the benefits?

It's hard because $$$$ is such a good lure.

I can imagine what you are going through though. I'm not a nurse, but I just completed orientation for LI's major hospital system a few weeks ago, and a majority in attendance were PRN nurses.
