Gmo's and restaurants/take-out/parties gtgs etc...

So since becoming educated on gmo's I run a pretty tight organic ship at home Chat Icon it's pretty easy for me now because I know what to buy and what not.

That said, the problem is we are always on the go, have tons of parties etc so especially on the weekends we are hardly eating at home. Once in a while is fine but for us it is more like 50/50. So what can I do outside the home to avoid gmo's? Especially when everything is probably cooked in canola or soybean oil at these restaurants:( thinking ahead to the bbqs this weekend and already skeeved about the s$&t my kids will be eating!!! And, honestly, our entire June, July and August is filled with parties at catering halls, etc...

Thanks so much!!!

We are a big organic family as well the way we get around it t barbecues and parties is we bring our own food. Most of t bbq's and parties we attend are friends or family so I always give them aheads up letting them know and they are fine with it! They actually say we are the easiest guests to have over!Chat Icon

My kids are pretty good with it! They know that if they want snacks we have our own. My husband will grill our own steaks, chicken, or hotdogs on there grill!! Works out great for us!!

For me personally I would make an exception for that day but I it's very important to you then I would bring a dish and maybe your own snacks for the kids...

agree. i'm getting more and more selective which leaves a lot of places out. and being a vegetarian moving close to vegan is like Chat Icon

I do fine in the city but closer to home its mostly eating at home only.

Same here unfortunately. Panera used to be my"go to" place when I ate out, but I recently found out they put tons of preservatives and junk in their food so now I don't even have that.

Eta I quoted the wrong post. Meant to quote the findng it hard to eat out at all. Sorry about that lol

Thanks ladies. I was hoping maybe there were some gmo free restaurants you guys may know about or foods to choose over others when ordering or at a party that are less bad. Honestly, and this is just my opinion, I could never show up with my own meats etc at a party and start barbecuing for my family...I would feel really awkward and somewhat rude.

Thx again!

I would feel the same way.

I don't know of any unfortunately. It's sad.. one day hopefully.

I also get nervous and think about this same dilemma...w e too are very busy and I know the majority of the food at the places won't be organic and will def be filled with GMO's. I hate that.

I would though feel OK bringing a dish to the BBQ... but large enough to feed everyone. I wouldn't bring just meat for my own family and start grilling htat... wayyyy too uncomfy for me.

I did go to a BBQ yesterday where my friend is all organic no gmo but her bf isn't... so I stuck more with her food selections at the bbq... haha.
It's usually easy when you go to a friends house who eats like you do.

and forgot to add... we do bring our own snacks for our baby girl... so if she gets hungry, I have her ypugrt and whatever else on me in a freezer bag for her to eat. I would do this regardless of where we go though.... just because I don't always know what they will have there and I want to make sure ther'es something she can and will eat.

I totally agree. We don't eat out often so every now and then I don't get too worked up.

I always said if there was an organic fast food place here on the island they would do fantastic. More and more people are in the same situation.

Gmo's and restaurants/take-out/parties gtgs etc...

you know, as i become more aware, i become more obssessive. How i deal with it is that i do what i can to control what we eat at home. If there is a party,i let my guard down a little. it's hard for me but at the same time i want my kids to be able to choose a healthy balance and not fear food.
my kids are 4 and 2 and there are a lot of things i do not allow in my home esp things like hot dogs. i cringe when i go to a bbq and they eat a hot dog. i cringe when i see my dd eat a novelty ice cream with food dyes etc. but i sleep at night b.c i consider this a treat and not the norm. i do teach my kids about eating healthy and why mommy doesn't buy things like fruit loops or fruit snacks etc.

i avoid processed food like the plague in my house and htat includes things like ego waffles and cereal bars.
Now i am learning more about where gmos are popping up and it frightens me.

i guess learn to be a little flexible. if you still can't bear the thought of your kid eating something with gmo, i say try to eat before you leave the house that way they are not over indulging when they get to these parties. i agree, i would not feel comfortable bringing all of my own food. I mean one dish to contribute to the party is nice but not a whole 3 course meal.

good luck!!
