What to put in a china hutch?
We bought this beautiful china hutch, but I really don't want to put china in it!! Anyone have ideas for what else to put in a china hutch besides china and knick-knacks?

What to put in a china hutch?
Just out of curiosity - why did you buy a china hutch if you're not going to use it for china?
In my hutch, we have china, crystal, and a sterling silver tea set. I don't know anyone who doesn't have any of those things in their hutch - sorry!

I only have one place setting displaced. The other 11 quadrants have one piece each. I don't like it to be too cluttered. I have a huge piece of coral, a statue, fancy tea kettle, wedding bouquet and tiara. Random pieces. Hutches are so traditional, so I wanted to give it a modern twist. I keep the china in the buffet.

Good question!
We actually bought it second hand from Craig's list, and it was part of the set.. she wouldn't sell us only the table. At the time I thought it was great but now that I'm thinking more about it, the less I want to use it for China! ha!

Good question!

Honestly, why don't you try to sell it? I feel like the look of dining "set" is a little bit dated. I would try to get maybe a unique sideboard or china cabinet in a different color or something.

how about photos, groupings of books with cool/funky bookends, cool bowls, colorful glasswear etc.
you can make it less traditional by putting unique items in it instead of china

We actually bought a china hutch, or at least I'm assuming it is because it has that groove at the back of the glass shelves.
I like it & we needed something for our TV electronics. We have a 2 story great-room, so a small cabinet would have gotten lost.
so at the bottom shelf are the cable/electronic boxes.
Then I have photos
Then I have some of my Lenox, a Brooklyn Bridge, etc.

Thanks for the great ideas everyone!!! Loving the liquor idea!! And also the books/cool bowls etc! I'll post pics once I get it all set up

I have three place settings of my china in mine, not the whole set, kinda off set (2 in the bottom and one in the middle on second shelf).
I have a picture frame set of wedding photos. I have a section with my tiara, our wedding ring boxes, our champagne flutes, and our program from our wedding.
I have a Limoges plate we got from France in it. And two cake stands (one Mikasa/one Lenox).
