Psychiatrists?

I don't go on here much - I used to hang out a little on liweddings - but I was hoping since you guys are more or less local, if you could help - I was wondering if anyone has a psychiatrist who would see a pregnant woman...I'm having severe anxiety and depression...haven't been to work. In a month and I must have spoken to all the psychiatrists in queens....they either don't take insurance, don't treat pregnant women, referred me to other people, etc. .....I can't possibly be the only woman who is pregnant and having these issues...please feel free to private message me...after being shot down yet again today, I thought I'd give this a try....I live in Oakland gardens/bayside....my obgyn is in mineola...I'm looking for someone between that area - thank you in advance

Btw my name is Amanda and I'm 20 weeks pregnant

Re: Psychiatrists?

I have this third party insurance through ghi -it's called ghi network access - but I'm also under my husbands Cigna insurance - I'm not exactly sure how primary/secondary insurance works though

I am in Suffolk and so my psych would likely be too far, but I just wanted to offer you Chat Icon and let you know that you are not alone. I hope you find someone soon, and you are doing the right thing trying so hard to find someone. Already a great mom!

Zucker Hillside in Queens has a walk in mental health clinic. Even if they don't take your insurance they might do a sliding scale. I would try there. Best of luck to you!!

Re: Psychiatrists?

I can't believe you can't find any one who will treat you! That is very serious, and usually drs are very helpful when they see a pregnant woman needs help in the depression anxiety department. There are medications you can take while pregnant that are considered safe. You would not be the first woman to have to take them either believe me! As someone who suffered from post pardum after my dd was born, I can sympathize. Your obgyn can't recommend someone to you? I would refer you to mine, but like you said, he is one of those who is not accepting new patients. And he's all the way in smithtown. It's good that you reached out on this site, all these girls are very helpful and I'm sure you'll find a dr that will help you. The first step in the right direction is recognizing you're not feeling yourself. I hope you're feeling better very soon!!!! Hang in there... Better days are ahead! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Psychiatrists?

I would try any university hospitals mental health clinic. For example Stonybrook department of psychiatry will have an outpatient psychiatry clinic where you can be seen. If you do not mind going into Manhattan Weill Cornell and Columbia both have renowned psychiatric departments with sections devoted to women with mood disorders

Re: Psychiatrists?

Thanks this has been very helpful to me as well. I am having the same difficulties and cannot find a doctor in network that will treat a pregnant woman. I have Cigna too so I guess they have issues there.
I hope you found someone, and if I do I'll PM you if you need it!

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I used to see Dr. Mark Weiss in Merrick- I can get his number for you if you want.
