Is it tacky to have a sprinkle?
I just had my DS June 2012 - so my shower for him was May 2012. Im now having a girl due in November, is it tacky to have a sprinkle w/ just close family/friends in september? Theyre close together. I just think girl things are different and would be fun. But maybe it seems like were looking for gifts?
**my mom wanted to throw it for me

Re: Is it tacky to have a sprinkle?
In my family it would be viewed as tacky, but I know so many people who have them (friends). If people don't like it, don't come. I think it's tacky if someone throws it themselves, but if someone else wants to do it, I'm ok with it.

Re: Is it tacky to have a sprinkle?
In my family it's weird NOT to have a shower for each pregnancy.
I don't think it's tacky at all.

Re: Is it tacky to have a sprinkle?
My family was always against second showers except for large gaps between children, like a decade or more, and second marriages. This said, I know many, many people who look at it differently and feel each baby deserves to be celebrated.
I was against having a second shower because I felt it would be tacky especially since I'm having another boy due at the same time my first was born and I have pretty much everything I need. My best friend and my MIL offered to throw me a second shower but I said no.
But my colleagues and friends just threw me a surprise sprinkle last week. Since they knew how I felt, it was only a handful of people but they still wanted to recognize my new little guy. If someone wants to throw you a sprinkle go for it...those who wish to attend will and those who don't won't.
I personally go to first showers but not second ones. I send a gift for the second shower.

Re: Is it tacky to have a sprinkle?
I think it depends on what the norm is with your group of family and friends. In my family I feel people would think its tacky especially since they are so close together. I have not been to a sprinkle yet because my friends are not yet on to their 2nd child but if it was so close together I think I would feel they were looking gifts. Not saying I wouldnt go to a family or friends but it would run through my mind.

Re: Is it tacky to have a sprinkle?
My family is anti sprinkles...though I wish someone would throw me one. Lol!!! I don't know how DHs family feels on the matter, so we shall see. My LOs will be almost 3 years apart and born in different seasons...don't know what I'm having yet!

Re: Is it tacky to have a sprinkle?
My mom threw me one and my kids are 11 months apart. Now, with the 3rd, i absolutely will not have one.
My first two are a boy and girl.

Re: Is it tacky to have a sprinkle?
I'm not big on sprinkles, but my mom wanted to have something small with all of my aunts and cousins... layette stuff only. I'm just excited to eat the food!

I personally am not a fan of it unless its a surprise thrown by friends or family.. I think showers in general should never be thrown by the person the shower is for, nor should they have any involvement in the planning of the party (other than to give input "I would really like this at my shower") I understand that all babies should be celebrated, but I think the actual babies are celebrated more after they are born. The showers are more about the mom and the preparation for the baby.
But I see nothing wrong with registering for some items that you'd like!

Re: Is it tacky to have a sprinkle?
personally, I only think there should be a second shower if there's a huge gap between kids. However, I do understand wanting one when you're having a different gender because there's so much more stuff you need (it can almost be like starting over if you didn't go gender neutral with the first). Plus I do feel like every pregnancy should be celebrated (with or without gifts). I think as long as you're not throwing it for yourself and you're only inviting close family then it's fine. If it's like everybody that's in your life that came to your wedding and the first, then it can be a little overboard. If somebody invited me to a 2nd one and I wasn't close with them, I'd feel like it was tacky. But if it was, say, my sister or cousin or best friend, then that's different. KWIM?

This somewhat! In my culture every baby is celebrated. My stepmom however doesn't really believe in showers after your first baby.

THIS
I feel like I've heard a lot of friends complaining, too, not just family and the pregnancies are pretty close together. People will get you girl gifts anyway without feeling pressured to do so.

Re: Is it tacky to have a sprinkle?
I think full blown showers are tacky but sprinkles are fine. It's nice to get together and celebrate the new addition. The people invited should be only people close enough to you that they would've bought a gift for baby anyway.

Re: Is it tacky to have a sprinkle?
i think its perfectly fine. My mom is throwing me a sprinkle, my DS is 4 years old, and im having a girl. But to be perfectly honest, i believe every child should be celebrated, and i dont really care what people think, those that want to be there will come.

Is it tacky to have a sprinkle?
I don't think it is tacky, if someone wants to host a lunch at their home and have close friends and family give a gift I think it is a nice idea. I give a gift for all my close friends/family for each child so why not have a meal as well lol

I agree! I think it's nice for every baby to be celebrated. But I'd probably feel uncomfortable about the gift aspect of it. Especially with people being so generous the first time around I'd feel funny "asking" for more gifts. But that's just me! I don't think it's tacky or anything.

Re: Is it tacky to have a sprinkle?
I'm not a fan of sprinkles, but only because I feel like our friends and family have been so generous with our wedding and with our son. I know that our families are going to spoil this little guy as well, so I don't see a need (for me) to have one. I think it's a personal decision because everyone is different.
