Looking for info for my friend...
I'm looking to find out some info about schools for my best friend. Told her about this board and encouraging her to join since there is such a wealth of experience and knowledge on here. Until that hopefully happens, I told her I'd ask about nursery schools.
Her son will be beginning nursery Jan 2014. He'll have just turned 3. He is globally delayed - (low tone/speech delayed/ possible processing issues - he is not on the spectrum. She will be getting more names of schools next week at a meeting with her son's EI case manager, but the names of schools she's been given so far are Variety in Syosset, DDI, and Building Blocks. She lives in East Northport but would consider Variety because she works very close to Syosset.
Any feedback you can give on the above schools as well as any other schools you think she should check out would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Re: Looking for info for my friend...
i visited Variety and was not pleased with it. We walked in a side door and was easily able to roam the building. In addition I thought it smelled like a hosptial or nursing home. We ended up not needing a school so I have no recomendations.
Good Luck to her

I have experience with both DDI and Building Blocks. FM me with any questions, anytime (or FB). I was/am incredibly happy with both schools.

Looking for info for my friend...
Variety is a wonderful school. My son has made tremendous gains while going there. His teachers and therapists are the best we've EVER worked with by far! It's SO unfortunate when people waste their time posting about schools they have never even attended or worked with personally. I get so upset thinking that one negative comment can change a person's mind and possibly take away the opportunity a child may have had to go to an amazing school. Not every school is for everyone, but I personally choose to share information about the school that I truly know about firsthand. I don't comment on those that I just made a visit to. Variety does have an open school policy, which means that parents and family members have the right to visit the school and observe their child through a two-way mirror either in class or a therapy session. The only way for parents AND staff to enter the building is through the main entrance, which is towards the side of the building. You must first be buzzed through two double locked doors, then sign in and display a family sticker. Variety provides a safe, wonderful learning environment. Please feel free to FM me with any questions. Good luck to your friend.

Re: Looking for info for my friend...
I think it all depends really on the quality of the teacher or therapist you get. I urge your friend to watch out for that more importantly. I have experience with B.B and I have been very happy. I have a friend whose child goes to DDI in Huntington and she's happy. I would do searches on here about each school and visit each one as well. These type of schools can book up quickly too.
