Divi Tamarijn or Occidental?

I think since we're only going for a long weekend, all inclusive is the way to go. We want everything easy and right at our fingertips. I'm debating between these two resorts in Aruba. They both get pretty good reviews. Divi Tamarijn is in the low rise section and although the rooms don't seem fabulous, they are all ocean view. Occidental is a high rise resort. Would it be worth it to upgrade to Club Level?
If anyone has any first hand reviews/advice I would appreciate it. TIA! Chat Icon

My vote would be for the Occidental. I understand that you want all inclusive but the food in aruba isn't horribly expensive and I picked the occidental for its location to other restaurants and shopping. Not worth it in my opinion to upgrade, if its truly AI, then any food they offer, you can order.

Occidental hands down. Good food & central location.
But Aruba isn't your typical AI type of island.

We just booked aruba for a family vacation and I was talking to the rep. at the vacations to go and he brought up a good point. For a safe island, where you can leave the resort, he doesn't recommend an AI hotel. He didn't think it was worth the cost. We were looking in the Divi Village which were like apartments. If you were staying in say Mexico or DR, where it isn't recommended to leave the property, that is the way to go.

My 2cents, since it is just the 2 of you, I would rather go to a nice hotel that isn't AI and eat where ever I wanted and enjoy the peace of a nice restaurant, walk around with no whining, and just feel like a couple.

Re: Divi Tamarijn or Occidental?

Here's our thoughts on AI. I found that going AI was only about $300-400 more then a regular hotel. DH and I are basically planning on doing breakfast and lunch at the hotel. We are also drinkers. So I think AI will be worth the expense for us. We will only be there for 3 nights and will probably do 2 dinners at our resort and one dinner out. The Divi has one if the top restaurants on the island on the premises. There's an up charge, but we don't mind that.

We stayed at the Tamarijn and we loved it . I understand your reasoning for the AI and I agree. Personally, I prefer AI's anyway. I don't go away for the food on an island. We did go out to eat one night at the Flying Fishbone. The food was great and we got to sit on the beach to eat. The beach at the Tam is beautiful and I loved having an oceanfront room.
