I want to invest in one. What size should I get? I want to be able to cook a variety of recipes from meats to stews or sauces etc.
How big?

I have a medium sized one and it's perfect. I don't remember the size offhand. My MIL has the largest one and she barely uses it bc it's too big for everyday.

ETA: I checked mine and it's 5.5 quarts. The perfect size!!

We have the 6 3/4 quart wide french oven and are extremely happy with it. Perfect size for just about everything, especially frying and braising. Any bigger than that and I'd probably have trouble lifting it. They are very heavy.

Me, too! I use mine often.

I also have a similar sized oval shaped one, and I use that less often, but occasionally. If you want to make a lot of roasts, whole chicken, etc., I think the oval one would be great (and of course you could use it on the stove top, too, for everything you use the round one for).

But the 5.5 quart round one works great for me for most things. I love the way things cook in it, and it cleans up so easily. I cook and entertain often, and I can't imagine needing the bigger size very often. And they are heavy, so a bigger size may become unwieldy.

I have the 5 1/2 quart one and I use it for so much stuff! It's one of the best pots I own!. I would definitely recommend getting that size.

I have a medium sized one, I think - but I wanted to mention that the William Sonoma outlet often has great prices on them (and sometimes has additional coupons) - you might just not have the same selection of colors.
