NYC-ReadyGen Training
I was just wondering if training is mandatory? I am planning to go but i have a friend who will be on vacation for a while and wants to know! TIA!

Its not. I just went yesterday, it was,ok. Learned a bit about the program but more of an overview and it was a looooong day.
I heard there will be more that build on this first one
Im annoyed that we will be made to write lesson plans (my school will make us) for it when it is already,done for us and each lesson/day is 6-7 pages long

A bunch of us went and it was awful! My Principal received terrible feed back from us and colleagues that went on different days. She soon informed any of the teachers registered after us, not to waste their time. The math session was good and worth attending. They showed you the books, manipulatives etc.
ReadyGen showed almost nothing...because they don't have it ready!!!!

100% agree....ReadyGen was the worst PD I have ever had.....disorganized, presenters who themselves did not have a clear understanding of the program. No materials are even ready to be looked at.....avoid at all costs! Don't feel prepared to teach at all!
Go Math, however, was well presented and I learned a lot....I feel ready to teach this.

They were like this at the Core Curriculum fair. They had some silly handout, and that is it!

Who presented it? We had kathy she was ok, Gave a general overview but yes totally not prepared for this and I think we were told unit 1 is online and can be printed. But I would think you need the materials too.
Anyone elses principal going to make them write these already written up lesson plans into lesson plans?

A woman named Selina. Not sure about lesson plans yet... sure I will hear about it in September.

I just went last week, and it was a session for D75 teachers, and they were not prepared to talk about adapting this for the population. They basically told us the kids need to do this, and that is it. It was not really thought out in that respect. There are two main texts per unit, but the lexiles are the new CCLS ones, so the texts are really long, not to mention complex. Its going to be really difficult to adapt for our kids. I was lucky though that our session was the one the D75 Literacy dept. sat in, and they asked some great questions.
