"Monster High" backpack

Appropriate for a 1st grader??

DD is absolutely obsessed. I haven't bought it yet assuming she would change her mind, but she is sticking fast and hard that this is what she wants.

I am not totally a fan, but not sure if this is a battle worth fighting.

Thanks!

I don't buy character backpacks because 1. they don't hold up, and 2. the kids change their minds so frequently. I'm not that familiar with Monster High, so I don't have an opinion on the actual character.

Re: "Monster High" backpack

In kindergarten last year monster high was popular with the girls, but as my DS noticed none of the older kids had character backpacks. This year for first grade we went with a solid color backpack. I hope that he will get a few years out of it. Last year he had a cars backpack. He used it for one year in preschool. He is using it in camp this summer and I am praying that it makes it for this week as it is on its last threads. I know my son still loves Cars so I got him some Cars folders as well as the plastic folders for school. Perhaps you could get her some monster high accessories (folders, pencil topper, pencil case) and go with a plain backpack?Monster High Pencils

This was me last year WORD for WORD!!!

DD wanted a Monster High backpack for first grade as well and I didn't love the idea. Just not the image I really wanted her to be idolizing. So I didn't buy it.

Well PS... she went to her dad's one weekend and he bought her one. I wasn't happy but she was, so I let it go.

I understand exactly how you feel Chat Icon

I don't love the dolls or the show but yeah, I would be begrudgingly be okay with it. As long as it gets them excited for school.

Re: "Monster High" backpack

My DD is going into 2nd, and also loves Monster High (primarily due to her cousin who is 3 years older). I was against getting character backpacks for many reasons already mentioned. But last year, I saw a Pinkalicious one that *I* loved, so bought it for her. She was happy with it, and it did last the whole year.

This year, she'll be using the non-character one that I had already bought for last year that she never ended up using.

If it were me, I would try to hold off on buying the Monster High until it gets closer to the start of school, and I'd keep hoping it would sell out...then it isn't your fault. Chat Icon

Re: "Monster High" backpack

Ha. I just bought one for my first grader. Lunchbox too.

Not a battle, with fighting IMO. It's not my favorite but it's what she wants.

I know they fall apart and shell change her mind, but sh was so excited about it and she's stuck with it for now, Chat Icon
