How terrible and so unprofessional! I would never pay cash to a business like this. There is absolutely NO recourse when they screw you over.

Fortunately I paid the deposit with my amex- so I am disputing that charge. I told the performers after they were done that their boss took NO responsibility and told me not to tip them!!! needless to say they were very upset.

Sorry you were so disappointed, but honestly imo you didn't pay for Elmo, if it was the most important of the package then that should have been made clear and something else thrown in for free.

Thanks for posting. I was considering them for my son's birhday but will go elsewhere.
And regarding it being "thrown in" . . . Regardless of whether it was "thrown in" or paid for, the company should deliver what you contract for. Perhaps, if it was not thrown in, you would not have booked. RIDICULOUS! If you won't deliver than don't contract for it - PERIOD.
He should have told you he would waive the fee and just tip the two entertainers. That would have been the right response.

Sounds like a bait and switch. They knew Elmo wasn't available but wanted your business and "throwing" in ELMO was the way to get it.
Reminds me of a limo company my friend used for her wedding. She contracted and paid for one car. But suddenly that one was available the day of her wedding and they sent her something completely different. At that point, what can you do?
Sorry it didn't work out. But it sounds like your DD still had a great time. And thankfully she wasn't expecting ELMO so she didn't know any better.

I can totally relate. I am in the same "sticky" situation with an awful company Party Depot out of Amittyville. They make you pay cash for the balance and then the second anything goes wrong they are no where to be found! It is sad that people do business and stay in business with behavior like this!

That really stinks and they are completely in the wrong. And those that are saying that it was free so you can't be upset... how do you know that she wouldn't have paid for it regardless. Let's say you have a birthday party and you need 25 cupcakes for the kids coming and the person you book with says that with every 20 you purchase, you get 5 free. And then when they show up with only 20, are you not allowed to be upset b/c they were free? You wanted 25 and you would have paid for the 25 if that were the case. JMO

Thanks ladies..... I totally disagree with the "it was free statement so too bad". When I called I had all intentions of paying for the character. I bought a package and the character was an add on that I fully intended on purchasing- the operator offered it for free so I accepted. I asked her several times about Elmo and they even emailed me pictures so I could see what I was getting. I certainly don't want to upset anyone who has already booked them- however I checked online after my incident and Professional Kids has an F rating with the better business bureau and approximately 30 plus negative reviews. I booked last minute otherwise I would have gone with someone else. I m just warning parents- I also looked here at LI families for reviews and found nothing negative. I guess I was just unlucky!

I would be furious. You negotiated for a particular deal and assuming it is documented in your contract that is what you should get.
When we planned our wedding we negotiated with the hall for them to "throw in" certain extras and they agreed, it became our new adjusted package and we booked based on that package. It was all set out in our contract. If they didnt deliver on that we would have been furious and made a stink.
I'm sorry it didnt work out.
