knitting question... but non-knitters are welcome to give their opinions, please
looking for ideas/opinions.
i've been on a yarn diet since last october. i've been really good. i haven't bought a single skein of yarn!! yay me!
well, i no longer love any yarn in my stash because i really, really, really want to knit a couple of sweaters... but i don't have enough yardage of any given yarn to make a sweater (poor me).
i really want to buy yarn to make sweaters. there are three sweaters that i REALLY want to make. one for SO, one for DS, and one for me.
did i mention that i REALLY want to make sweaters?? lol
money's a bit tight, i really need to reduce my stash because we'll be moving to california next year, and i actually love the yarn i already own.... ssshhh don't tell SO, i've been organizing my yarn and i'm already at three large plastic tubs... and i'm not even half done finding all my yarn... yes, it's hidden throughout the house
what's a girl to do?!

Can you barter for different yarn that would equal enough yardage to make a sweater (or 3!)? Maybe you can find someone who is willing to take your yarn off of your hands (the stuff you don't LOVE) for matching yarn that would be enough for a sweater!

I was going to say to sell what you have. It would be a lot easier than taking it with you when you move.
If you are 100% sure you will do those projects then I would buy the yarn.
I know where you are coming from as I totally stopped spending money on scrapbooking. I would only spend on new albums b/c I don't have unused ones and adhesive because there's no way around using it. I need more space so that is part of it and I don't do as much of it as I used to.

thanks for the ideas.
this is where i am... for now...
i got inspired to make a pair of socks, weave in ends on old projects, and work on a scrap-yarn project. this will help reduce some of what i have and help me feel productive.
i've made myself a deal. since it's mid august, if i can keep from buying anything until the one-year mark, i will allow myself to buy enough yarn for ONE sweater at rhinebeck (the north-east's mecca for yarn come october)... it will also be right after the marathon and it can be my reward.

I confess to having large plastic totes filled with yarn. I've been trying to reduce the amount.
I've done a couple of scarves and some gloves but the piles aren't going down!

you're not alone
i just started to clean my bedroom. there is roughly enough yarn for another plastic tub in what i've already found!
looks like i'll be knitting enough socks to never have to buy another sock in my life
