MFP and pregnancy
I have been a naughty prego and eaten everything in sight my first trimester, so I want to start tracking again, just to be a little more moderate. What should I set the goal to? Stay the same weight? Gain .5 per week? Gain 1 lb per week?
I was 155 lbs pre-pregnancy, and have gained 10 lbs my first trimester. I am 5'10"....anyone know roughly how many calories is a good daily goal?

MFP and pregnancy
Are you pregnant now? If so please speak to a doctor. They should be able to give you a guideline for calorie intake, but if you get hungry and need more calories then eat! You can worry about weight loss later.
I'd focus on eating 3 well-balanced meals and 2-3 healthy snacks every day.

Re: MFP and pregnancy
MFP probably won't work for someone who is pregnant, because although you *should* eat 300 extra calories a day, some days you will need more, and some less, based on what your body is telling you. I ate very healthy my second pregnancy and still gained what I needed to, there was just no keeping the weight off.
I would use it just to track what you are eating in terms of macronutrients, not to record your weight gain.

MFP and pregnancy
If you started overweight or packed on extra due to being prego (more than just the actual baby and such) then I don't think it's bad to diet. But diet is the wrong word I suppose.
I would track your intake in MFP and cut out sugar and bad foods. Simply eat more healthy. That way you can eat more healthy food at a larger quantity and not pack on extra weight.
Maybe allow yourself a cheat day here or there.
But I dislike when people say eat all you want now and worry about it later. I say that for a few reasons: pregnancy and all that comes with it can be harder if you gain a lot more. More pressure on joints on top of a growing belly - that kinda thing. Also - sure - it's easy to say you will go on a diet after the baby - but that can be very hard to do as a busy new mom on little sleep. Plus it's hard to drop a lot of weight. It's not easy. Who wants to struggle with that with a newborn.
So .. All in all... You can track calories. If they are huge numbers then cut back by eliminating junk.
You can work out too. Just run it all by your doc. I don't know any doc who would say keep eating to your hearts content and worry about it later - in fact my doc had only wanted me to gain 25-30 lbs. and that's what I did and it fell right off me after giving birth.

That is more what I was saying. Obviously, I will eat if I am hungry! I just want to know how many calories to shoot for. I plan my meals and snacks and can adjust here and there to fit a healthy number of calories in. I am really committed to gaining the recommended number of lbs (I was told 25-35). I workout when I can, and am just trying to make a solid plan to gain only whats recommended from here on out.
I don't think its unhealthy to shoot for a certain number of calories in a day, even when pregnant. I am eating 1800-2300 depending on the day now.
I was really restrictive with my diet before getting pregnant, and had terrible MS my first trimester, and eating was the only thing that helped. I just want to get a better plan going than eat everything in front of me all the time.

Well nobody is saying that...but if you think you should be eating 1800 calories/day (arbitrary number) and one night at 7pm you're starving...by all means, have a snack. Your body might need something more that day.
But don't indulge in a 3 scoop sundae every night. That's just careless and empty calories. But as long as you're being smart and making good food choices, you'll be fine.

Trust me....I'm eating, lol. I was never like 'Oh, I can't have any more calories" if I hit the goal before. Its just a good number to plan around and then add/subtract as need be! :D
But now I want an ice cream sundae.

I agree with you. It's all about healthy choices when eating if you're trying to cut back. You're more full after eating broccoli rather than potato chips and broccoli would be lower in calories obviously. So then if you do choose to indulge once in awhile, it's no harm done.
