Opinions - should I switch OB?
Hi everyone, I started seeing a new OBGYN about a year ago after moving. She was recommended to me by 3 people whose opinions I value greatly. They had nothing but amazing things to say. For my first appt (annual) it was pretty much business as usual. A few months later I had a positive pregnancy test and then some spotting so went in before the typical 8 weeks. She was pretty nice but every time I saw her, it was like she was in a rush to get out of there. Even after my pregnancy confirmation sonogram with the tech, she cancelled our appt bc she was busy. I ended up having a MC 2 weeks later and now I'm pregnant again. Some of you might remember that a week or so ago I posted that I was 6 weeks and all they saw was a gestational sac (note-she used a roll-in crappy US machine). At that point my obgyn was basically like "I'm cautiously optimistic. We should see more. Don't tell your work yet!" I was devestated. She had me go for bloodwork that day and told me to call her the next day for those results. I spent all night crying convinced I was going to MC again (I feel that after being through it once you are even more nervous). The next day rolled around and I called her (she also told me to try and get the blood results myself bc labcorp leaves her on hold for too long). Anyway she said my blood came back great and she needed me to come in right away to see the sono tech and the better machine. I went and everything was visible even a heartbeat! She was like "why didn't I think to use that machine yesterday I'm kicking myself" and everything was fine. I felt like that was kind of crazy and she put me through a lot. Just yesterday I went for my 8 week and again felt rushed. The sono tech "forgot" to print me a pic so they made me a ghetto photocopy. The copy machine sucked so its all blurry. Then she played the heartbeat for maybe 3 seconds (it was my first time hearing it). Then in the office I told my OB about my family's history of blood clots (dad had one and grandma died from one) and she was like "hmmm call your dad see if he has a diagnosis and call me." No one ever discussed my baby's heart rate or anything. They just wanted me out the door. The only reason I know it is bc it was printed on my ghetto sono photocopy. Anyway I'm not sure if I'm being overly emotional and have high expectations or is this a crappy OB? I feel like her appt book is always booked solid after all her good recommendations and now she's overwhelmed. I hate to switch at this point but I kind of feel like its spoiling my pregnancy experience. Would it be the same elsewhere? Let me know what you ladies think and sorry this is so long!!!

Re: Opinions - should I switch OB?
I would switch, I just went for my 8 week last week and didn't feel rushed at all & I go to a huge practice w/ a bunch if Drs. They never tell me the heart rate, except for that its perfect...honestly, the # means nothing to me...if they tell me it's good, it's good, KWIM? The sono tech took her time to point out what we were looking at, but I didn't hear a heartbeat, only saw it (last time I think they played it at the 12 week).
Then we went into the Drs office (not exam room), and he went over everything with me & DH.
My biggest complaint is sometimes its a long wait, but they don't rush me so it's ok.
If you think she's overwhelmed, I'd definitely switch.

I would probably switch if I were you. You need to feel comfortable with your doctor.

I can't stand her already. I'd jump ship before you get too much further into the pregnancy.

Re: Opinions - should I switch OB?
Are there other things that you dislike about the practice? ie. they always overbook so you wait 30 mins or longer at each appointment, office staff is rude or won't pick up the phone, too may billing errors, etc.?
I've left doctors for some of the reasons above.
I would also leave your doctor in a heartbeat, sounds to me like she treats you like a number...

Opinions - should I switch OB?
I would switched! I actually switched at 10 weeks during this pregnancy due to the office staff not being thorough and misleading. I will say being in the field I've heard doctors tell patients many times "don't tell work yet" if they are not seeing what they should see early on. It's not to necessary scare you it's just them being blunt about the possibility of things not going in your favor.
If you're not comfortable then switch.

Re: Opinions - should I switch OB?
Trust your instinct and switch OBs. Remember you will be going to this doctor for a while and you want someone competent, compassionate and who you can call at anytime with anything. I had a MC four years so and had a horrible dr. She was uncompassionate, very businesslike. I switched Obs after that and it was the best decision I made.

Opinions - should I switch OB?
I switched at 20 weeks. best decision I ever made. The 2 practices were like night and day.
I love my OB so much that is he said hey lets have this baby on the street corner I would.
A good Dr and office makes a huge difference.

Opinions - should I switch OB?
If you are having doubts switch. I was doubting my OB but tried to stick it out. I wound up switching at 24 weeks and I wish I had done it much earlier

Opinions - should I switch OB?
If you feel that way you should switch. I had a similar feeling about my original OB and switched around 20 weeks pregnant and was so happy I did. My new OB ended up being soooo much better than the first one and it made a huge difference.

Re: Opinions - should I switch OB?
Not only should you switch OBs, but since you said your family has a history of blood clots, you should ABSOLUTELY get checked for clotting issues as well!!

Re: Opinions - should I switch OB?
I would switch. Same thing happened to me. I had an OB all my friends loved. I had a mc and didn't like the way he handled it. He wasn't mean just so matter of fact about it. I was really devastated. I switched right after that. Well here I am 3 kids later with an awesome OB. So glad I switched. It was like night and day. Trust your instincts!

This woman sounds cray cray! Family history of blood clots is very serious and deserves a work up. Her office sounds pretty ****** too.

Yes, I personally would switch. Would you mind FM'ing me the dr's name, I am currently looking for a new OB myself and would like to stay away from this one. Thanks!

Re: Opinions - should I switch OB?
Def switch, not sure where you are but I highly recommend Dr Zandieh, bethpage , he now has lady ob in office too off you want. If blood clots in family may want to look into daily baby aspirn as precaution , ask Dr first of course, im on it for both pregnancies
