Never, maybe high school if they can prove they are responsible about it.

my parents let me have one when I could purchase it on my own. I saved $100 and bought a 13 inch TV in 9th grade. seems fair to me.

This.
But I also don't encourage them to play in their bedrooms either.

My one DC has had a TV since about 4. However, until last week (now in early elementary school) it was only hooked up to a DVD player.

We just got DC a cable box bc said DC is a sports fanatic and wants to watch some of a game at bedtime so we allow that, other than that, DC doesn't watch TV in there.

I got one in HS.

Honestly, with kids using tablets these days they don't need a tv........they can watch their shows sitting in bed on their iPad. My DD watches Netflix shows all the time on my iPad. I'm guessing at some point she will have her own tablet and use that for watching shows, it's unlikely she will ever have an actual tv in her room for that reason. It would be redundant.

My twins have one now and honestly I think it's fine they are only in their rooms to sleep so at night a movie goes on and by the time it's off they are asleep

My gut reaction is never, but I think maybe I'd consider it around 13? What do I know though...my oldest is only turning 8 next month. As for the tablet thing, as far as I'm concerned right now--and I know, I know never say never--but my kid will never have a device with Internet access in their rooms! Alright, maybe after HS graduation with that. Chat Icon

At minimum, when they hit their teens. I see no need prior to that.

My kids are 6 and almost 4, and I say no time soon.

Maybe middle school? I am not against it, I had one in high school but for now I don't really see the need. We have a tv in the basement, living room and playroom.

Maybe middle school, it really depends. Even if we do it then, I will probably hook it up to netflix and a DVD player, but not cable.

I had one in my room from the time I was 6. But I agree, I'd get DD an iPad before a tv for her room. We watch tv on the optimum app and also Netflix all the time in my kitchen using the iPad. We have a cover that acts as a stand. Takes up way less space than a tv & completely portable.
