Do you long run fuel?
If you do... How many miles do you run, that you need to fuel? What do you like?
I'm trying to get familiar with this, because this week I'm at 8, but next week will be my longest yet, at 9, & I'm afraid to lose steam
TIA!

For 9, it depends on the temperature. If its hot/humid...I will take some sports drink with me (or leave it in my mailbox and I'll do loops). If its cool, I usually do without.
I don't really do gels/Gus/etc until 15+ miles.

Re: Do you long run fuel?
Right now we are pretty humid, and mid 80s....but I'm hoping the morings will cool soon!
I keep reading, people run without, but you can run better with. I'm concerned it'll bother my GI.

Re: Do you long run fuel?
If I eat plenty of complex carbohydrates the day before, then I feel Ike I glide as I run. When I don't eat enough, every extra mile is slower. Beware of eating too much complex carbs at once. You may have to go to the bathroom mid run.

Re: Do you long run fuel?
I did 8 today with no problem. I did try out Nuun in my water, but only had a few sips around the 3rd & 6th mile. (I'm afraid of crashing)
And I breezed, for me, through the run. My eating is primarily fruits, veggies, quinoa, beans. So I'm pretty used to it. My usual oatmeal & dried fruit lasted me, but I might try some whole wheat toast, PB, & a banana as the miles go up.

I use gels during my longer runs- usually anything over 10 miles. I love the way they make me feel mid run!

Ok....I'll be there in about 2 or 3 weeks. So around the 5 mile you use it. I did find this last week, right around mile 4 or 5 I was getting thirsty & that's when I sipped a little electrolyte water I made, & didn't feel tired at all, so maybe it helped the fatigue & thirst.

Which gels do you typically use? I've tried a few and I really can't stand them. Plus I feel like they don't really do much.
