Second time around high risk
Hi mommies to be!! Looks like I'm joining the expecting club as I got my BFP today I have a Ds who is 2.5 and had a high risk pregnancy the first time around due to a blood clotting condition called Factor V Leiden. I was seeing a dr. Kofinase perinatal who was great and was looking forward to going back him but found out he is now out of network for all insurances and we would have to pay $5k out of pocket So now idk what to do... My OB will only see me after 8 weeks and I can't get a referral to another high risk specialist, nor do I know who I would even go to. And I'm freaking out a little bit about the whole no seeing a dr for another month and not taking ay prenatals or other meds. Anyone high risk the first time around that encountered similar road blocks the second time around? Or better yet was able to overcome such problems because of the risk factors?

Second time around high risk
I saw Dr Goldstein at Madonna due to clots. My OB referred me over to him. When I get PG again I have to contact my Hemotologist and get on thinners ASAP.
I would think based on your history your OB would be proactive and see you sooner or just give the referral.

Second time around high risk
Have you actually called Dr. Kofinas's office and find out what your out-of-pocket costs would be? He only took out-of-network benefits for my carrier too but I never had to pay anything out-of-pocket except a $30 co-pay. I just brought to their office the check for whatever amount my carrier cut. Believe me, my carrier isn't the most generous either. They took whatever amount my insurance company cut the check for each visit and I simply signed each check over to them.

See that is exactly what I did the first time around. Paid an arbitrary co payment they made up of like $50 and just signed the checks to them... Which is why I was so surprised and upset when the receptionist called me back with this amount! I know my out of network deductible is high but they always had a workaround since they are out of network for all providers... I guess I will try calling tomorrow as speak with billing again. Thanks for confining my suspicion that smt was off!

Re: Second time around high risk
I see dr. Kofinas. This is also my 2nd time around. My 1st Preg I only pd co payments. This time I had to pay a $1000 deductible and then co payments. They were flexible and allowed a payment schedule. I pd 250$ my first 4 appts. The just copayments and the check from my insurance company. I would call and speak to them. Once you go there I think it would be harder to switch and like the care you get. Jmo

Looks like the got a bit greedy... :( I'm gonna try again tomorrow since I really loved the quality if care and felt very safe throughout my whole pregnancy! It would pain me to switch but I can't imagine paying so much even if it is on a payment plan :(
