Which obsevation option are you choosing?

DH works for DOE and is trying to decide whether to choose option a or b for being evaluated. Option a is 1 formal with 6 informal or option b which is 6 informal observations. Which are you picking and why?

TIA

You mean option a is one formal and 4 formal as opposed to option b which is 6 informal. I am choosing option a as it seem all or most of my school is. My principal subtlety hinted that's the one to choose and she's an awesome principal.

Yes thank you for the clarification, 1 formal with 4 informals or 6 informals. DH is also leaning towards option a.y best friend works for district 75 and says she is leaning towards option b. just trying to help h figure out the best option. My heart breaks for all of you teachers. This seems like such a crazy time with all of these new procedures.

Most of my colleagues are leaning towards option 1 without allowing recording devices. I think I will go for this option too.

I thought recording was optional, but my friend may have explained wrong (im on childcare leave so I wasnt at confr)

And with option 1 you have to hit all 22 points? That seems really intense

I never heard of having to hit all 22 points. Where did you get that info?

So it seems as though most of the responses are option a without recording...I work at a private school so I'm not very well versed in this procedure at all. Does it even seem possible that administrators will even be able to schedule this many evaluations per teacher per year? When do they have time for anything else?

I am choosing Option A without being recorded, as I can even stand to hear my voice on my answering machine.

As for hitting all 22 components, we had PD today on the observations and it said you have to hit all 22 components over all the observations, not just the formal.

So you can hit some points on one observation and some on another? It's a combined score?

My entire school is going with Option B. Here is our reasoning....

-the principals put the data into a computer so whatever it generates is whatever you get
-option A you must hit all 22 components in the 1 formal or its considered developing or insufficient and supposedly that 1 formal holds more weight than the 4 other informals
-the kids are rating us too in grades 3 and higher,... who knows what they will write so 6 informals is more of a chance for feedback to add what is needed

Re: Which obsevation option are you choosing?

I am doing the 6 informals because my AP couldn't keep up with one formal and one informal before....I figure with 6, she will run out of time and do some really, really quick, and probably be less nit-picky.

Plus I am better when I am just doing what I do.

Interesting about the first part. Now you have me thinking when my whole school seems to be going with option A. All in all, even IF you get developing its still OK- it's if you get ineffective that's like a U rating.

I also heard about the 22 being over all observations and not one only and that that was a recent change...everything is a recent change

Just curious, if you are so good that you hit all 22 points on your formal observation why would they want to observe you anymore? Or do te informals come before the formal.

We just had a PD on this today. My principal had to correct her presentations because her video was not correct. She received an email stating that now for option 1 you do not have to be observed in all 22. I think the main focus was 2 and 3. I would discuss with your administrator.

Re: Which obsevation option are you choosing?

If you look at the language for the observations, it says--

Option a will be AT LEAST 1 formal and 4 informals
Option b will be AT LEAST 6 informals.

As someone who was observed 15 times last year (and I was only there for 8 months since I was out on maternity for 2), I am picking option a. There are administrators in everyone's rooms constantly. They are going to be in our rooms all year anyway, I would like at least one of their visits to be announced!!!
