Help me interpret Beta results...
Hi,
I am a longtime poster undercover. It appears I am pregnant. Probably around 4 weeks. I am switching doctors because my beloved doc is logistically impossible to go to this time around. The new guy seems great.
I went this week to get all the bloodwork/pap smear/meet and greet out of the way and was NOT expecting an ultrasound.
Well, he gave me one and freaked me the hell out. I have to go in on Saturday.
My first pregnancy I went to doc at around 4 weeks to confirm pregnancy and then went back at 7 weeks for the first ultrasound and dating. All was fine and I never thought about it.
This time I got a beta done. It came back yesterday at 800. What does that mean? Based on my LMP, I am 4 weeks and 3 days. Is that high or low or what?
They expect to "see something" tomorrow and the doc threw out the potential "ectopic" word....so this is why I am freaking.

Help me interpret Beta results...
My first beta was around then and it was in the 800's and I'm 35w pregnant. Not sure as everyone can be different. Good luck!

There is no way to judge an ectopic from 1 beta... its so ridiculous when drs scare people this way...wait till the sono and 2nd beta...

well, he told me it was very early and that was what they needed to rule out and "not to worry"....but holy crap it has worried me.
Of course I have an ache on my left side too now and am thinking the worst.

That's not fair to scare you like that but I understand his concern- your numbers are high but that could just mean possible multiples! I think Dr's should wait for the second beta before mentioning anything like that. Good luck!!! Excited for you, who ever you are!

it still doesnt make sense to bring up ectopic based on 1 #. Betasbase.com will give you the beta ranges and you will see its impossible to tell whats normal... At exactly 4w my beta was 227 - 4 days later it was 1829.
ETA i was pregnant with twins at the time.

He didn't mention ectopic based on beta. He mentioned ectopic based on the fact that they couldn't find anything on the sono (something about a "ring of fire" bs)
Like I said, I wasn't expecting a sono.
The bloodwork that they took on Wednesday was to measure the beta to determine when they expect something on the sono to rule out an ectopic, I guess.
And since it was 800 on Wed, it is expected that on Sat it will be at least double that and after 1500 they expect to see something.
And I'm sorry, but Lillies, did you say multiples???? 800 is high?

I think ectopic and beta are two different things and have nothing to do with each other. I had a sono at this time to 1. rule out ectopic and 2. find out how many babies i was carrying.
Your doctor is just being cautious, you wont be able to see much but you will see if the baby has implanted in your uterus which is what your doctor wants to find out.

I think he is being cautious. And I would rather that, I guess. I am just too much of a googler/research fiend.
Last time, I just bopped along and didn't even think about it.

Help me interpret Beta results...
I would just stay positive and not focus on what he said or did. Don't get ahead of yourself, and wait til the next appointment. Some doctors do things differently, and maybe he's not the right doctor for you, but just hang in there and everything will be fine

they shouldn't see something with beta in 800s. but yes if it doubles as it should then they'd likely see something on saturday. not a whole lot, but something.

You can't tell from one beta. As long as your next one is doubling, then it should be all good. They shouldnt see anything really at that point with an u/s.
