Fighting a cold & race training? *Update*

The kiddies are sick & now me too. It's mild, but i feel it the most in my chest though.

Should I wait to run? I'm only 2 1/2 weeks away from my 1/2 marathon & dont want to get worse, but dont want to hurt my progress either. Chat Icon

Update: so I ran for the 1st time today & did my 11miles (1st ever too). It was the 1st time I didn't enjoy a single moment of the run. My legs felt heavy & so inefficient. BUT I finished .02min/mi faster than ever. 1:39:50! Boy am I tired now though!

2 weeks from tomorrow will be my 1st ever race & 1/2marathon!Chat Icon

Fighting a cold & race training?

I always run when I get a cold, unless I am so overly congested that I cannot breathe. I feel like running helps clear up the cold faster.
But, listen to your body. If you need rest, then rest. Maybe cut one or two days out for the week.
Feel better soon!

With most colds, I do run. I find it actually helps me to feel better and feel less congested. The only way I wouldn't is if I was having trouble breathing or have a chest infection (like bronchitis).

Like the other poster said- just listen to your body. It will let you know if you're doing too much. Good luck!

Re: Fighting a cold & race training?

I rested today, so tomorrow I'm going to see what happens. I have a fear I'll make myself worse.

Fighting a cold & race training?

i don't remember where i read it... i think it was jeff galloway

exercise raises the body's temp, which helps kill stuff.

i say, if you feel well enough to give it a shot, go for a run. once you reach the last week or week and a half, that's when you can completely back off and still meet your HM

Re: Fighting a cold & race training?

I have my next long run Friday. This is the first week I even skipped runs. I walked 4 yesterday (honestly felt I could fall asleep on the trail) & did 4 today, so much better. Since I've gone so light all week, I thought I'd walk tomorrow, then try for the run Friday.
