PSA: If your LO ever needs stitches - Dr.Stitch
Hi everyone, I wanted to share this great service our family learned about last night.
My DS fell and cut his face and I was pretty sure he needed stitches and when I called the Pediatrician for their opinion before bringing him to the ER they referred me to this service called Dr.Stitch. It is a local 24/7 emergency service which fast-tracks patients through the ER. The service, offered by the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group (LIPSG), has 16 surgeons with 25 hospital affiliations throughout Long Island, Queens, and Manhattan. They will treat lacerations, broken noses, dog bites, burns, facial traumas, and other injuries for both children and adults.
How It Works
After the trauma has occurred, call 877-DR-STITCH to be directed to a nearby hospital where a LIPSG surgeon will meet with the patient. Patients are usually seen within one hour. When I called there was already one of their surgeons at the closest hospital so he was waiting for us when we got there.
We were seen, stitched up, and discharged in 90 minutes!
This is DS's second set of stitches and the first time we were in the ER for 6 hours, most of that time waiting for the hospital to find a PS to see us.
I hope your LO's never need this but it's awesome to know it's there to eliminate those tortuous ER waits.

Thanks for sharing! I would also like to add DD needed stitches on Wednesday night and we went to PM pediatrics in Syosset. They did a great job and we were in an out in a little less than an hour.
ETA: I was telling DH about this and he reminded me that this (LIPSG) was the practice that did his reconstructive hand surgery after a horrible accident. Anyway, I have to say they were beyond AMAZING. The doctor DH saw specifically told him to never pay a bill to them and we never paid them a dime.

I'm not sure but if you call the number the staff is super friendly and helpful and will be able to check for you. The service even called today to check on my little guy and confirm that we had made a follow up appointment with the doctor.

The drs at pm peds aren't plastic surgeons though right? They are ER DRs.

Not sure but something to note is that they bill as an ER visit if they see you at the ER. I know my ER copay is much higher than urgent med or office copay. I believe they do also see in the office so something to think about depending on your plan.

I do not believe they are plastic surgeons. DD needed stitches on her pinky in a spot that will probably never be noticed, so I was not concerned if it was a plastic surgeon. Now if it was DD's face I would have definitely been concerned with the dr being a plastic surgeon.

Darn hoping I was wrong. Our ER copay is $200 but urgent care only $50. Would be nice if they did have one.
