My DD confessed to me today that some boy makes fun of her at school
I have a beautiful 6 yo DD , unfortunately she has a noticeable "peach fuzz" on her upper lip. It has never been an issue, my DH and I or anyone else have never mentioned anything about it or pointed it out . I don't even think she realized it's there. I had the same thing when I was a little girl . I knew that it would come up at some point, I just didn't think it would be in the 1st grade. Well today I was getting ready to go out wit her and she asked me "mama, what's this? " pointing at her upper lip , i said what do you mean? She said " Why do I have hair on my lips?" She said some boy makes fun of her "a lot" telling her she has hair on her lips and that she has a mustache and he loughs at her. She got very emotional while telling me this and I could tell in her voice that she was holding back tears. I am heartbroken. I told her she is beautiful, that the boy is just being mean, that everyone has hair and it's no big deal and that she can take care of it when she gets older, but for now she can tell the boy to mind his bizzwax and tell him off without being mean back to him. Bu if he keeps making fun of her to tell him he has a big mouth (as in he talks too much) She asked me if she can have it removed, I said yes, when she is older and she got upset. Obviously she is very hurt by this and now I wonder if this is why she gives me such a hard time about going to school every morning. I was wondering what your opinion is and what would you do or tell your child in a situation like this? Also would you try and do something about the hair ? Maybe bleach or just leave it alone since she is so young .

Re: My DD confessed to me today that some boy makes fun of her at school
I feel like throwing up reading this...kids can be so cruel...I'm hoping that the boy doesn't even realize that he is being mean I would absolutely be calling the teacher tues morning, and let her know that it's affecting your daughter wanting to go to school. Bullying is huge right now, and she should be able to nip it....she should use this as a teachable moment to go over bullying and feelings (obvs not mentioning specifics)
Please hug your daughter for me...this stuff makes me so sad
Many hugs for you as well

Re: My DD confessed to me today that some boy makes fun of her at school
I would send in a hand written note to the teacher about this and how it's making her feel and I would want the boy talked to and apologize to DD.
From the sound of it your DD wasnt happy about leaving it alone for now especially knowing now it something she can take cate of later. Not saying you shouldnt have said that but ir might of made her feel she has an imperfection now. I'm not a 100% sure but I think I most likely would do something lika a lightening cream so that she would feel better. maybe a dermatologist could recommend something?

Heartbreaking.
Honestly, I'd probably do something to help the hair become less noticeable. Sadly, we live in a cruel world, and if you can make your daughter's life just a little bit easier by bleaching, lasering, etc, I think I'd do it. Perhaps consult your ped?

I had the same problem when I was a kid. My mom told me to tell the other kids everyone has hair there mine is just darker. I would let her bleach it. I worry so much about my dd going thru this as I already notice the dark hair.

I would wax it, if that was what she wanted. Life is hard enough without getting teased. So sorry she is dealing with this.

Re: My DD confessed to me today that some boy makes fun of her at school
I am so sorry this happened to your DD. A similar thing happened to my DD - 7 a few weeks ago. DD is beautiful with dark hair, brown eyes etc and she has hair on her arms and legs. A few weeks ago when it was bedtime she opened up to me with tears in her eyes that one of the boys at school ( who I think she has a crush on so it made it worse) told her she has more hair on her arms than the boys - in all honestly its a very slight hair growth but enough to be noticeable if you were looking - who would think 7 year olds would be looking. Anyway she was upset about it. I was upset about it because she was upset but I kind of played it down and said that I have hair on my arms too and it means that we are strong girls and boys should not mess with us. I told her that if he says it again to just say " so does my mom" and leave it at that and walk off. Short and sweet. I also told her if he kept annoying her over it to go straight to her teacher and tell her and then tell me that night. It has not come up since so I hope that he has moved on with his observations.
To be honest I would not start bleaching or waxing as your DD is so young and once you start you will have to keep doing it. I would just let it be for now and hope it goes away.
Kids are so cruel sometimes

Re: My DD confessed to me today that some boy makes fun of her at school
i am SO sorry to hear she is going through this.
I went through this myself ALL through grammar school and into high school.
I am a hairy italian girl and had a mustache and very hairy legs.
I used to get called a monkey. it was devastating.
I started bleaching my mustache at 10 and had electrolysis done at age 14.
I also had laser done on my underarms, legs and bikini.
To this day i hate monkeys and they are not allowed anywhere near my house.
Tell her to be as strong as she can- She is beautiful WITH The hair. I wish I myself believed that. My mom used to tell me to ignore them but I couldnt.
Good luck!!!!

Re: My DD confessed to me today that some boy makes fun of her at school
I really feel for her. I was a bit older but also had hair on my upper lip and hairy legs, arms, etc., and suffered some teasing because of it. I really, really wish my mom would have let me do something about it from the get go, but she was old school about it.
I know your daughter is very young, but if she continues to be self conscious about it I would consider allowing her to use something like a depilatory cream.
