A glutton for (retail) punishment

So I just spent my lunch hour at Anthropologie looking at pretty things I can't afford, unless I give up something like car insurance. I love looking around, smelling all the candles, and checking out the displays but then I leave and feel kinda crappy because I know I can't really afford it. To be honest, sometimes the quality of their stuff is lacking so the price isn't even justified but that doesn't stop me from looking and craving and pouting, haha. Anyone else do this? What's your store of choice?

For the record I do the same thing at Whole Foods. That place smells so good and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Then I leave and realize how "unhealthy" I am in real life but I go all the time anyways! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: A glutton for (retail) punishment

There is a cymbal at a music shop in Brooklyn that I want so. badly. it. hurts. but it's pretty expensive.

So, I go there a couple of times a month or so and bring it to their drum room and play with it and leave without it.

One day it will be mine.
Oh yes, it will be mine.

Chat Icon That's not it. I can't think of the name of the one he's at, but I think it's a dude's name or something?

That's awesome!!! Maybe he works at Norm's Music?
The only other store I can think of with a person's name is Matt Umanov Guitars but that's in the city.

I feel that way when I walk through 90% of Nordstrom.

Also last summer I took DC for a walk at the Americana Manhassett and we bought an overpriced brownie to eat at the outside table and window shopped. Sigh......

I love jewelry and I feel that way when I look in Cartier, Tiffany's, etc. I know I can get an exact replica of whatever ring, earrings, etc that I'm pining for in there but there is just something special about those boxes! And I feel like the jewelry just glitters and sparkles so much more at those stores ( but I know that's in my head lol).

A glutton for (retail) punishment

my son was born i a birthing center on the upper east side (no longer there, they combined with a hospital). when i would go for my midwife visits... there was a little baby boutique. i would go in there and do the same thing. i knew i couldn't afford a single item in that place.

soon after DS was born, i bought him a pair of tiny mittens there. it was all i could afford... it felt like such a big deal to be able to get him something from there.

I'm worse then any of you. I do this with vacation houses. Chat Icon I am in no position to buy a second house, but I dream of it and constantly look at houses on line. In fact, my honest to god dream is to go vacation house hunting with the Property Brothers and have them fix me up the perfect house. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I know, I'm nuts!!!

Oddly enough I've done this too. I love looking at Key West and Saratoga properties because those are our favorite destinations and places we've talked about someday having vacation homes in or retiring to. I also plan vacations that I'll never take, terrible. And don't get me started on the Property Brothers... I love them and want them to come fix my mid-reno house NOW.

Anthropologie makes me so angry! I like a lot of their clothing, but honestly, its not worth the prices. $98 for a shirt? no thanks.

i do go there for inspiration though and then see if i can find similar items elsewhere

I do the same thing at Pottery Barn. We're in no position to be buying random overpriced home decor items right now, but it doesn't stop me from looking!
