Need UPK Halloween Help!!

Ok, so of the posts on here are making me nervous

My son goes to UPK and we were told that you cannot bring in baked items and such because of allergies.

I never in a million years thought of bringing in something for Halloween for the kids.

After reading several posts on the parents of school age, is this normal practice?

I couldn't believe some actually got teacher's treats on Halloween (I thought only at Christmas & the end of the year)

This is my first child "in the system". He went to a small private nursery school that didn't do halloween things.

And I feel funny asking the teacher (plus my husband does the p/u d/o as I work full time)

I just don't want my son being "that kid" who forgot or something.

Thanks!

Need UPK Halloween Help!!

My DS is in Nursery at a priovate school. They are having a party, so we are sending in chocolate chip cookies (per a sign up sheet).

I am also making little treat bags for each of the kids in his class with candy (nut free since it is a peanit free school) and a little trinket inside of it.

Even if they weren't having a party I would have sent the treat bags in. This is my first experience as a parent with a school aged child, but I have worked in schools in the past and have seen parents send in things on holidays. It's never anything big - just a little treat for the kids.

I would check and see if they are having a party. Unusually it is a sign up for items so they don't have a bunch of one thing.

no sign up sheet. And we were told on parent/teacher night that no baked things for anything due to allergies. (so no cupcakes/cookies/etc)

Should I send my son in with bags of candy? Or maybe store brand cookies?

They are having a party

And do you get something for teachers too?

While I think its cute, I also think its a bit ridic. I don't remember bringing in stuff as a child. I mean, he is in school 2.5 hour. And also has a parade...

Personally, I wouldn't send anything. DS is also UPK and they are having a party. I signed up to bring crackers for snack. My school also specifically said no "treat" bags.

I wouldn't send in candy - if you do want to send in something small - maybe the individual pretzel bags?

DS came home with a few little treats last year, nothing crazy though and not from every kid.

I'm sending in pretzel packs and this pumpkin decorating sticker I got from Oriental Trading since I thought it was cute.

Re: Need UPK Halloween Help!!

my husband is gonna ask the teacher today.

I still think its nuts. I mean, somebody wrote "every holiday"

are you serious? Like I know of Christmas and Valentine's Day, but the others too??

Insane!

We have parties for every holiday, but no homemade goods, have to be store bought. The class parents usually request certain things. If there were no requests, it could be that you don't do parties with goodies. I don't make goodie bags for the kids for all of the parties though.

When my DS was in Pre-K (daycare) they alawas had a sign-up on his door for the parties. I always made goodey bags for the kids...nothing crazy just halloween pencils w/erasers and maybe a bag of pretzels.

I wouldn't bring anything. Honestly, in all of our years of school (my oldest is 14), the majority of parents don't bring goodies for the kids to go home with. You def. won't be the only one.

Re: Need UPK Halloween Help!!

I teach 1st grade and we always request snacks for a party.
How else would we have a party? There is no way I could afford to buy juices and snacks etc...

You could send in some juice boxes

My son is in nursery school and we had a sign up. I thought it was a bit ridiculous that they asked who wanted to bring in decorations(thats strange!) but i signed up to send in a non food item so i got esch student a water color book from michaels

Our classes have always collected money at the beginning of the year for parties, so I assume that is how the drinks, etc. are paid for when the teacher doesn't ask for donations.

If she said no goody bags, and doesn't need anything, I don't know why you are so confused about the whole thing. Just show up at the party, have fun with your kid and call it a day Chat Icon

BECAUSE, as stated originally, we didn't get notified until the letter was sent home yesterday from school. And over the past week there were numerous posts on here about what people where bringing or doing. Sometimes this site makes me crazy
