Re: Underground Disney and employees
Love this thread! The closest I've come is working at the Disney Store when I was in college. I loved the lingo:
Uniform = Costume Sales Floor = On Stage Back area = Backstage Salesperson = Castmember Cash register = Box office
I remember the dress code was very strict too, in terms of no nail polish, closed toed shoes, etc. I was a seasonal employee and they didn't have a spot for me one winter break. Somehow I never ended up turning in my costume, and I still have the blue cardigan sweater with my name tag.

I know someone who made a documentary about the underground world of Disney. I have to find out the name- it was years ago.
One thing I remembered was this story. A child wandered from his parents and they obviously became frantic the minute they realized he was gone. Immediately, cast members wisked them away. They were yelling "we have to find our son" and they brought them into a room full of TV screens. Funny thing was...the scenes on the screen were all of the ground. They asked the parents- "What shoes was he wearing" and by that, he was found within minutes. Apparently, there are cameras at ground level all over. Their thought is (& this is creepy, but genius) is that disney could be a kipnapper/predator's paradise- and they could easily grab a kid, drag them into a bathroom, put a hat on them, change their shirt and everyone would be looking for them and they could easily get away because they've changed....but it's hard to change a kids shoes- get the right size, etc. Also, most kidnappers would not think of this. They really thought of everything!
My adult cousin was there with her family when a girl was snatched. She was taken into the rest room. The man shaved off her hair and dressed her like a boy.
The store they were in at the time immediately went into a lockdown mode. All entrances were locked and they found her. But they have an intense security system in place and have thought everything through.
That is terrifying!!

I really find this so bizarre. Especially since if you have ever been in a Disney bathroom, you know they are usually PACKED.
This thread was intriguing me so I was googling some stuff and found this:

Re: Underground Disney and employees
A good friend of mine worked there in college. She did the internship there and loved it. But they were super strict with appearance as the other posters said. She couldn't paint her nails, no open toe shoes and she couldn't have any extreme hair dye. The rules at her dorm were strict too. No alcohol allowed, etc.
She actually dressed up in costume a lot. Sometimes Mickey Mouse too. Most Mickey Mouse's are female due to height restrictions with the costume. She told me that she couldn't walk through other areas of the park if she was dressed the part of another. She had to use the underground tunnel. Also when employees are on break they're not supposed to say that to guests. They usually were advised to stay underground during breaks and I believe employees couldn't use the public bathrooms of the park as well. They had their own underground. They have their own cafeteria as well. I don't think they're supposed to eat in public. They could never look like they were on lunch break.

That snopes site is usually correct but this doesn't make sense. My cousin told me this story when she took her kids there years ago.

Re: Underground Disney and employees
Don't know how true this is. My college offered a class centered on Disney and my friend took it and learned it gets so hot inside the costumes sometimes that the person wearing them can throw up. And still have to wear the costume for the rest of the shift. Like I said I don't know how true this is.

Lol. I interned there for a year. Its weird when you see cinderella and ariel making out back stage or taking the bus on stage with mickey dressed up but holding his head on his lap. Fyi, the tunnel smells like garbage sooo bad.

All true. We had to smile and be happy anytime we were onstage. And if you are not working. They don't really want you to associate yourself with the park

Snopes isn't fake. That's something made up from the likes of those who love Twitchy, The Blaze, News Max.
