I don't own anything higher-end than Coach. Coach OUTLET, mind you Chat Icon I'm just not into designers. Same with clothes-- I shop at Target, Old Navy, Kohl's. Works for me.

But I don't begrudge people who spend $$$ on bags. It's my choice to buy cheap bags, not everyone shares my feelings. We all have different amounts of money and we manage the money we have differently. Enjoy your designer bags, ladies!

Same here! I agree 100%.

Kate Spade Outlet at Tanger Deer Park is having a great sale! 40% plus another 20% on top of that. Thought this would be a good audience for that informationChat Icon i bought a casual black bag- LOVE it and for only 132.00 with tax!!!

Around $800..I have a few Louis Vuittons. I also own a few Coach/Kate Spade/Michael Kors bags but I end up always going back to the Louis.

That being said, I recently started to look into purchasing another one and even I'll admit their prices have gone out of control.

$50 max if even that. I like to switch them up too much to ever spend a lot of money on a purse. I cant even imagine spending $300 or more for a purse. I have other things I'd rather spend money on like food and a mortgage lol

same for me. I'd be so paranoid about damaging it or losing it if I had a bag worth thousands of dollars.

I may be horrible to say it, I just can't stand LV bags. I wouldn't buy one just because I find them so ugly. I don't mean to offend anyone but why are they so amazing? Chat Icon

You are not alone. I think they're hideous. I wouldn't want one if it was $100! The patterns are fugly IMO. I don't understand the hype at al!

I agree w you ladies! I never liked the patterns of LV bags! I def think there are nicer bags out there!

I hate them too. I find nothing attractive about them.

Re: What's the most $ you spent on a purse?

My husband just got me a MK bag for my birthday. So I guess 350-ish. I am so nervous about getting it dirty. I NEVER had anything but maybe an 80 dollar bag.. usually the 20 dollar Target special. Then DH got me a small coach this year. At first, I wasn't into it because I really don't like the "label" thing and it was a coach with the 'C's". It grew on me and I got a coach summer bag at an outlet.. then I saw MKChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Sooo this is all DH's fault.

I still will never buy anything with the initials all over it for myself. Like the LV or the MK bags with initials on it. Just not my style. I use the small coach DH got me but, I would prefer a leather one.

The most I have ever spent was about $200. I can't see spending more than $300 on a bag right now. Now if didn't have bills and made more money than I would definitely spend more. I think that if you are buying $2000 bags and are making a middle class wage, you are making a really poor financial decision. But if you are making a lot of money I think go for it.

Re: What's the most $ you spent on a purse?

Wow. I don't understand how people aren't worried to CARRY around a pocketbook, in plain sight of anyone, that costs SO much (1000s I mean, not so much something under $400)? Isn't anyone afraid of getting mugged for their BAG alone (forget about the contents of the bag such as $, smartphone,CC, etc)????Chat Icon And forget about them TAKING my bag, I would just worry that I might get injured during the process of being mugged!!!

I would never spend that much (again, over $400 or more) on a bag for this reason above combined with worrying about getting bored with it, or LOSING it! I have a hard enough time keeping my sanity over losing my iPhone (and it's not b/c I can't afford another one). I feel like I am carrying around GOLD with my iphone alone.Chat Icon Chat Icon

And if anyone brings up wearing engagement ring, etc, well I understand that costs a lot more but a) it's smaller and easier to turn around/hide when in a crowd and b) someone can't just zoom past you in a car in a parking lot and swipe your ring off your hand. You take your bag off your arm/shoulder/hand but not your ring, kwim?

So that's my reasoning.

I'd be willing to bet that women who carry cheaper purses are mugged just as often. For the mugger, it's about the contents (the cash and the plastic), not the actual purse.

Really expensive purses aren't all that easy to identify. Most folks wouldn't know an Hermes Bolide, Constance, Plume or Kelly if they were hit in the head with it. Chat Icon Same could be said of many other designers/luxury brand handbags.

Most people are only aware of the clearly identifiable ones which are logo'd/have monograms and those tend to be on the "cheaper" side. (I'm using that term loosely.) Plus so many people carry knock-offs these days...so you just never know if it's the real deal or not.

I can guarantee you that most people have no clue who makes my bags, nor how much I spend on them.

I guess. I would have no clue since it's not something I would do or spend. But IF I did, I would be so paranoid about carrying it that it would drive me bonkers.Chat Icon

People are into different things. Some folks are into their cars, some like collecting watches, some spend money on concerts, some spend money on annuals (flowers) that die at the end of each season. Chat Icon It's all in our own perceived value and enjoyment and hopefully folks are spending within their means. Chat Icon

Yeah I'd be upset if something happened to my bag(s), but to be honest I buy my bags to be used regularly (I don't consider them investments, so I don't pamper them or intend to sell them). I'm more concerned about it's contents and even before that comes my family. If I was sporting a 20k bag, I would hope my standard of living would be relative to that bag so my feelings would be just the same.

Re: What's the most $ you spent on a purse?

I used to think buying designer purses were a waste of $$. But for the amount of $$ I spent on cheaper ones, I wanted a nice one. I have 3 coach bags and 2 MK. The most expensive was $385.

Probably $3,100 for a Chanel, and it's not even my favorite purse. Kind of lost it's shape - it's been years since I've paid that kind of money for a bag...kind of hard for me to justify that amount anymore.

for myself? NEVER - I just can't bring myself to make that large of a purchase, for myself.

Anything extravagent I own has been a gift from my husband. And it's all been stuff I never even knew I wanted until it was there in front of me -

I have to say, I don't EVER think spending money on something you will use and enjoy is wasted money, or ridiculous et etc.
To me, the woman who spent $100 on a bag that she used once and never again wasted $100 - The woman who spent $5k on a bag that she will use and enjoy for years made an investment, and that was money well spent.

People have very different priorities and thoughts about what is important, what makes them happy etc.

I agree with everything!!
DH has bought me a few LV bags and a Gucci. I don't show them off, I don't talk about it. I love the bags and they if you take care of them, they hold up.

What's the most $ you spent on a purse?

Someone posted a link on another thread to some purse forum where people were literally congratulating others for purchasing a bag or for owning a bag. Is this some sort of accomplishment?? I don't understand!

For some people, yes. They may have saved up for years or maybe they searched for a vintage bag for a long time. Or maybe they treated themselves because it's Thursday.

Different strokes for different folks. There are also forums for people who love telescopes, people who love Cadillacs, people who love watches, etc.

this ... take Michelle watches for PERFECT example. Easily $1500 (more than your average LV) and both last. TONS of people have them and they seem pretty mainstream.

different stroke for different folks. People pay hundreds/thousands for shoes too!

I do have two LVs and use them both (one spring/summer and the other fall/winter). Currently the ONLY bags I own. One is 5 years old, the other 3 and both look brand new. When my daughter is grown, I will pass them on to her (if she wants them). I can see myself buying a third down the line.

See, and I don't find anything appealing about either of those things! I don't have anything that I spend that kind of money on.

My most expensive bags are Coach bags. Most of them were gifts from DH or my mom, and even those were bought at the outlet, or from a friend who gets a discount because he works for them. I probably don't have any bags that are over $200..but I do have several of them, all of which have gotten tons of use.

ITA. ANd I've never heard of a Michelle watch! My Citizen eco-drive that I wear every single day without ever taking it off (not even to shower or swim) has lasted 4 years so far with out an issue. I think it was $150!

I dunno. I still don't see how it's an accomplishment that warrants congratulations. It's not a new job, or a baby, or a wedding, or someone beating cancer, for example.
