Need help with cat - urinating all over the house
Hi... I'm in desperate need of help.
Our cat, Oliver, who we've had since he was a kitten (he's 7 now) has been peeing all over the house for the last month. about 3 weeks ago i noticed it and noticed blood in the urine so I took him to the vet. he had a bloackage, which the vet cleared out and 5 days later, he came home. Since we came home he's been peeing all over the house... everywhere. The carpet, my wood floors... my house is starting to smell like a kennel.
I took him back to the Dr. last friday and the vet said "he may need to be retrained and suggested i keep him in a small room with his food, water and litterbox. We did this for 4 days and Ollie didn't have any accidents so on Tuesday of this week, I let him roam the house again and he hasn't used his litterbox since then.
I've scrubbed my floors with soft scrub, bought carpet cleaner for the rugs... i've spent hours trying to get rid of his markings and the smell... PLEASE HELP ME...

Need help with cat - urinating all over the house
One of my cats did/does this. Make sure you spray the areas with a special urine pet cleaner. The smell needs to be gone or else he will keep going back to it. Try completely cleaning the litter boxes. New litter, spray it down and get the cat attract litter to sprinkle on top of whatever litter you use.

Need help with cat - urinating all over the house
My cat Morgan has a narrow urethra after a week stay in the vet hospital and a diet change he is good. As far as pee he missed the box a few times and I found a neutralizer was the best. I used one that was in a black bottle with yellow writing. I soaked it several times, then steam cleaned and it worked. Things that could be tossed was tossed out.

Did the vet rule out another blockage? Sometimes they block again very quickly. Did he also rule out bladder stones?
I just went through this with my 3 year old cat except it turned out he had stones and had to have surgery. When he was brought home we kept him isolated in a room. It took him about 2 weeks before he stopped peeing on the floor.
As far as the odor is concerned, you need an enzyme cleaner. That is the only stuff that will get rid of the odor so that your cat doesn't smell it. Pet Smart sells it. I think it's called Nature's Miracle or something like that.
Good luck. I know how stressful it can be.

This happened to our cat. He winded up having stones in his bladder and was also a diabetic. He had to be on special food from the vet.
I remember him being on a catheter for a few days at home.
After this he would only go in absolutely clean litter boxes.
I hope Oliver feels better.

I know this might sound crazy, but they do make diapers for cats.

He had a blockage and I had it taken care of. When he kept urinating after that i took him back to the vet and they assured me all was fine, that he just needed to be retrained.

Thanks. We've been back and forth to the vet and he's assured me the cat is better. We locked him in a room with his litter and food and he used the box every single time, no accidents... we let him out and he hasn't used the litterbox since.... so i'm thinking it's a territory/marking thing.

thanks, we changed his diet too as per the vets request. I'm going to get a neutralizer then steam clean the rugs again. thanks.

thank you. I'm upset he was sick/not himself, but I'm so frustrated with the peeing!!!

It sounds like he's acting out, probably b/c he was angry about staying at the vet! Cats can be very vindictive. Once he realizes he's not going back, it will probably die down.

Re: Need help with cat - urinating all over the house
He could be afraid of the litter box because of the pain he had before. He associates the pain with the litter box. Retraining sounds like it might help. I'd also get a second opinion and see if he does, in fact, have another blockage or infection.
What kind of litter are you using? That could also be a reason. He may have suddenly changed his preference. I would suggest changing it as a last resort because if that isn't the problem, you could just add to it more.
For cleaning I suggest Nature's Miracle or just an enzyme based laundry detergent powder. I think all powder laundry detergents are enzyme based. The enzymes will break down the pee. He is also smelling where he went before.
I'd also suggest trying Feliway plug ins and Bach Rescue Remedy (you can get the non alcohol version, but I read the alcohol version won't harm them). If he is having anxiety about the litter box and the pain he felt before, this will calm him.
I hope he feels better soon!

Re: Need help with cat - urinating all over the house
You need to retrain for more than four days. One of my cats stopped using the litter box, and I bought her a cage which we put in our living room, with a water bowl and a litter box. The only time I let her out was to eat, because I didn't want her eating near where she was supposed to go to the bathroom, since cats don't like that. She was in there for 6 weeks before we let her out for more time in the day, and she peed inappropriately again, so back in she went. This time we kept her in for two months, and started letting her out supervised. We started the process in July and just a few weeks ago did we totally let her out of the cage. She is no longer confined in it, but it is still there, with the litter box. There hasn't been once instances of inappropriate urination or defecation since. We will soon get rid of the cage and then keep the litter box in the same place.
We also added more litter boxes throughout the house.
I read somewhere to retrain they should be confined one week for every month of inappropriate urination. My cat had been doing it for over a year.

This. Our cat, Rebel, was having the same issues (peeing all over and having blood in his urine), so we took him to the vet. They said that he has crystals in his bladder and put him on antibiotics. Unfortunately they didn't realize how bad it was, and we had to take him to another vet. This vet saw how bad he was and ended up keeping him for 2 nights because his bladder was as hard as an orange due to all the crystals. They had to flush his bladder out and put him on prescription wet food for the rest of his life. I'm not sure where you live but the New Hyde Park Animal Hospital was amazing with Rebel, and caught everything pretty quickly.
