First time runner .... what will i need
I plan to start running in a few months. my plan is to do the Couch to 5k program. Just wondering what type of clothes, sneaker and euqipment should i invest in.
I was thinking of getting a use treadmill to run on there when the weather is bad ... any i should stay away from (i would get new but dont want to spend a ton of money just in case running isnt for me)
ETA: i will mostly be running at night if that makes a differnce. I am hoping to have a partner when i do run and my plan for now is to maybe find ot if my local high school allows you to use their track for running.

you mentioned you'll start in a "few months"... does that mean you're going to wait until the spring?
if you're going to wait until the spring, you won't have to worry about winter running gear (at first). although, this could be a good time to find spring/summer gear on sale/clearance.
what i say you should invest in are: * a quality sports bra!! * quality running shoes. don't go to a big box store. go to a running store and have them evaluate your running/gate.
welcome to the craziness that is the love of running!

I agree....go get some spring stuff on sale now!
I love running shorts with the built in briefs.
Good supportive bra
Get fitted for Sneakers (but I'd wait, in case when you finally use them you don't like, you need to exchange)
Good socks (I love Balega)
If you run outdoors, l like a hat too. (keeps sun off face/out of eyes, & hair neat)

Re: First time runner .... what will i need
I'm just saying, and you can totally be different than me, but I found out I LOVE running but hate being on a treadmill. I don't care what the weather is outside, I run. I bundle. Running outdoors is refreshing and amazing!
I think I may like running in the winter more than in the heat of the summer....and I'm not a cold weather person!
Good luck!
*If you aren't sure you are going to be a runner, I wouldn't spend a lot right away. A good pair of running sneakers is important though!

As the other girls said definitely go to an actual running store to get fitted for shoes. Before you do anything good running shoes are a must.
A good supportive bra.
Good socks.
I like to run in compression pants in this weather.
I definitely agree about the treadmill too! I hate that thing. I'd much rather run outside. It's much easier for me to focus. I just bundle up during the winter months and I feel fine.

I'm a fairly new runner as well. The other ladies gave you some good advice.
I don't mind running on the treadmill when I've done it. It just forces you to maintain the same pace whereas if you are running outside, you can go faster/slower as you want.
Our local HS does not allow you to use the track during the school year - security issues. I called and asked them as well. If you are there security might ask you to leave.
