Do you let your kids put together their christmas wish list?
I hate commercials. My kids seem to want very specific items that they have seen on commercials.

i don't right now cause DD is only 18 months old but I plan on letting her put together her list when she's old enough. I remember looking forward to making my list as a kid and the excitement of opening up presents and finding it's what I asked for. I want my daughter to have that same excitement/anticipation.

dd is too young right now, but when she gets older i will have her put together a wish list for the holidays and possibly for her birthday i would rather get her what she wants then what i think she should want. of course there will be times she wont get everything on her list and she will get things that are not on her list, but its a starting point

my dd is too small right now, but im pretty sure i won't let her make her own list. the grandparents will probably ask her and she'll probably blurt things out to them of course- but i'll be sending a mommy and daddy pre-approved list. I will try to take all of her suggestions into consideration but I feel like I should have final say.

I let my DD circle everything she wanted in the toy r us magazine (shes 3) but I did explain to her that just because she "wants" it does not mean she WILL get it. Santa will decide on what she will get out of what she asked for.. She seems to understand but we will see..

Yes, my kids are 7, almost 5 (have a 2.5 yr. old, but won't participate.) The older ones will ask fr specific things, but know Santa cannot provide them with everything on their list. We have a budget for each kid and stick to it.

DS is too young now we will likely work on it together when he gets older. I obviously want him to have a say since the toys are for him but I would review it and remove any inappropriate/over the tops toys if need be.

Re: Do you let your kids put together their christmas wish list?
Hmmm...
My parents always told me as kids that I could not have anything I saw a commercial for: I could have any doll I chose EXCEPT barbie & no cabbage patch doll for me!
Even though I hated it, it made all holidays a lot easier & it was a good rule of thumb.
Likewise, I don't get my kids any "brand" items (except disney... I succumb to disney).
We don't watch TV with commercials yet... so I'm safe: DS wants a dinosaur.

I'm annoyed that Nick Jr and Disney Jr are showing more commercials now - I miss Moose A Moose this holiday season.
I ask DS straight out what he wants and get a more specific list of things he actually wants. And then I suggest things I think he'll like and see what he says to fill out the list (like Legos and a scooter). Then I've been giving the list out to family as they ask. He wants every toy from every commercial he sees - even ones meant for kids under 1 - so he's being a bit ridiculous with his mental list.
My younger DS saw a toy commercial this morning, pointed to the tv and said I want that - I don't even remember what it was for but, it wasn't something that would interest him... He's just getting used ot hearing his brother say that over and over again...
I figure between friends and family - and having his b-day so close to Christmas - he will get enough cool things and not be disappointed (and there's no way I'm buying him a game iwth a dog that you stuff full of stuff so it will poop)...

Nick Jr on Demand shows a lot of commercials nowadays.
I could swear that they didn't have commercials previously?!?!
My kids want the switch n go dinos. They will probably get them all for Christmas. I just don't like that it is straight from a commercial.

Almost 4 year old DS told me last night he wanted the whole collection of them... He's too much.
They didn't show commercials previously. They had songs and learning things in between...

Re: Do you let your kids put together their christmas wish list?
YES but... I heavily influence to get him to "want" what I plan on buying. A little.. look how cool this is.. goes a long way. He is 4. I am not sure how much longer I can do this. I just keep mentioning the things I plan on buying and never mention the things he wants that I am not getting.. e.g., a trampoline.

My memory is getting blurry but I think I liked on demand because it did not show commercials.

Re: Do you let your kids put together their christmas wish list?
My kids are 6 and 4 and I let them circle things in the toy catalog, but I also tell them they will not get everything. I would rather they get what they want so that the toys will be played with rather than just getting something that will be barely looked at and never played with.

Re: Do you let your kids put together their christmas wish list?
Yes, this has become a great tool for him to practice is writing.
Last year, at age 4, he cut out pictures from catalogs.
This year, he has to write his Christmas list!
I always tell him that he is not getting everything he wants and that Santa has to have enough room on his sled for ALL the girls and boys.
