Salad to go with Thanksgiving dinner
I've been asked to bring a salad to go with the traditional thanksgiving dinner
Anyone have anything different/interesting they can share? I'm a basic green garden salad kind of person and would really like to bring something a bit more interesting than that
only caveat is it can't have cheese
thanks!

I would do a mesculin mix and add in whatever veggies you want along with some dried cranberries or blueberries and walnuts. Serve it with a vinaigrette (I think something a little sweet would be nice like raspberry or balsamic). We have something similar at many family events and it always goes over well.

Re: Salad to go with Thanksgiving dinner
My sister makes a salad with roasted pear over mesculan baby greens with candied walnuts and a raspberry vinaigrette. She does add goat cheese but I don't like it so I have it without and it's pretty darn good!

Salad to go with Thanksgiving dinner
I think a bright vinegary salad is the way to go - cucumber, thin sliced fennel, maybe some orange supremes, dried cranberries, in a rice wine vinegar-sugar mixture with a pinch of red pepper flakes. it will cut through all the heavy/rich food.

Re: Salad to go with Thanksgiving dinner
I did this one a few years ago. It was SO good, and to me, perfect for Thanksgiving. We had placecards, so I asked each person yay or nay on the blue cheese and walnuts, and dished it out before everyone sat. Cranberry-Pear Tossed Salad

Re: Salad to go with Thanksgiving dinner
I'd do a spinach or mixed dark greens salad with red onions, shredded carrots, grape tomatoes, and dried cranberries.

Salad to go with Thanksgiving dinner
Mesclun greens with roasted beets, candied walnuts, sunflower seeds and anything else you like to throw in there. I add goat cheese, but you said no cheese. I use a honey balsamic dressing. Skinnytaste has a great recipe.

Re: Salad to go with Thanksgiving dinner
mesclun greens with toasted pecans or pignolis and lightly dressed with white balsamic vinaigrette dressing (made from good seasons italian dressing with white balsamic vinegar and olive oil) and a roasted pear half on top with melted gorgonzola cheese. If serving family style you can cut up the pear into the salad.

i'm keeping it for future reference though!
