Only playing together... could this be a bad thing?
I guess my question seems simple, but it's backed by some discussion I've had lately with MIL, DH, mom etc. I need some advice.
DD's get along fine and play together well some of the time, but Baby I can be a bully. If baby J has a toy that baby I wants, she'll just take it. Sometimes, having them play separately works best. Baby J is so sweet and peaceful when she doesn't have her toys being taken away. Yet, she's needier in terms of needing someone to play with or interact with. Baby I is fine playing on her own (hell, all the toys are hers at that point, why not?) Because baby I is a climber and she's getting into trouble, I don't think I can keep the playyard out any more in the living room. The grandparents suggested bringing back the 2 pack n plays so that they could play separately.
At first, I was horrified. I thought, they should always be together and play together. But I think maybe they could be on to something. My MIL saw someone who has 2 sets of twins, and said her 3yo DD's have a hard time playing with other kids because they only play with each other. So I guess my question is, would it be bad to sometimes have independent play separately and supervised togther-play with mommy? Am I stunting social interaction if they don't always play together? Will always ONLY playing together hurt their social skills with others? Thanks

I think it really depends on your kids, my two always played together and I think they are fine now, but I am sure there are other kids that it didn't work out this way, so I think it just depends. Which is really no help for your question - sorry!

Same here! I wonder what would happen if we put the 4 of them together.
Mine will chase each other and play nice for a bit but then one ends up being pushed down by her face, one steals a toy and gets bit in the neck, one gets bit when she puts her hands in her sisters mouth or one gets pinned down while the pinner laughs hysterically. And mommy yelling is even funnier.

Re: Only playing together... could this be a bad thing?
I have a DS who is 5.5 and twin DDs who are 2.5. My girls play well together as well as independently. They do fight often, but it never really gets to the point where I have to remove someone. I usually just yell "play nice" or "no fighting" and they stop.
I think every situation is different because every child is different. I was initially worried that my girls would never play well with others or always cling to each other. But their personalities change so often that I can't say either really happens. There are days we go to open play and they run in different directions and have zero interaction with each other. Then there are days where at open play all they do is play with each other.
And since they are only 2.5 I can't really judge whether or not they play well with other children their age. They are good about sharing toys. But they are still more parallel interacting versus really pretending/playing.
