Is there an AMH/Implantation Connection? Please Help!
I had a consult with my RE the other day after my third consecutive FET failed. I had PGD done on all 3 embroys. In the most recent attempt (2 weeks ago), my lining was perfect, my embryos had ICSI, etc. On paper, it should have worked. My embryo obviously didn't implant.
Dr. blamed my failures on low AMH (.4, which I know is low). But here's the part he didn't really explain to me....yes, my egg quality is bad, but I did respond to Follistim and Menopur in high doses and produced eggs and embryos that were "normal" through PGD.
How can my AMH be blamed for my failures then? I am convinced it is implantation failure, and this is why I am seeking another opinion elsewhere. I need a fresh set of eyes to look at my paperwork and tell me something other than "you have a 10% chance of becoming pregnant because of AMH". I want someone to think outside the box.
Does anyone know anything about this? What are some factors that could contribute to implantation fauilure? I would love to have some more info to take to me second opinion in 2 weeks.
Thank you!

I would love to know the answer to this also. I am finding that the drs at my RE all blame failures on embryo quality and they don't really believe in implantation failures for other reasons. It's very frustrating! I just feel like there HAS TO BE an explanation other than embryo quality/chromosomal issues. Is it thyroid? Is it immune? Do some of our bodies see an implanting embryo as a foreign object and prevent it from implanting?

I highly recommend reading Dr. Beer's book http://www.babyfriendlybook.com/ because it goes into how your immunity can cause implantation failure.

Re: Is there an AMH/Implantation Connection? Please Help!
That is why in this grueling IF world; you have to be your own doctor and your own researcher.
I don't think there's a day that has gone by in the (many) years I'm trying that I haven't googled or looked up something to research. It has become an obsession; to the point where there is a pit in my stomach because you try and try and try to find answers and you don't know which way to turn.
I wouldn't turn down immune issues. Most doctors dont believe in them; so that is when you take the time to be your own researcher for the time being until all your tests get done. Then.....you take it from there.
I can go on and on and on about how so much can affect our fertility. From immune issues to the food we eat; even if we eat healthy. It's amazing how your body needs the perfect cholesterol, the perfect lipids, the perfect vitamin/mineral levels alllll to create a living being. I've learned alot and sometimes I feel like I'm a doctor without the degree. I actually had a doctor at LIIVF tell me I should open up a consult program with all the knowlege I have. Yeah, OK. Let's get PG first, then I'll discuss.

I think we have the same RE's. This is my exact problem and why I have an appt for a second opinion.

Yea, I think we do. I practically begged Stelling for some prednisone and some lovenox the other night at my post IVF consult; he wouldn't budge. I did some research about supplements and I started taking Selenium, CoQ10, PABA, Royal Jelly, Micronized DHEA, L-arginine, Fish Oil with Omega 3, B Complex, D3, Melatonin, aspirin, and 1 cup of decaf green tea. I'm attempting to limit my carbs and dairy but I'm not going to go all gluten free or anything. Allegedly all of this could help if there is an autoimmune or inflammatory process going on. Thinking about just seeing an immunologist/allergist just to get testing done and then go from there. All of the reproductive immunologists are too far and too expensive for me. Annoys me that some don't take insurance too.
I think the only other ones out here are San Roman (I don't know much about him) and LIIVF (I don't think they believe in autoimmune issues for implantation either) Thats what I got when I went for a consult with dr Brenner anyway.

Re: Is there an AMH/Implantation Connection? Please Help!
I was just wondering how things have Ben turning out for you. I'm in a very similar situation and my amh levels were .60 back in march before I did my first failed IVF & transfer. I have my next one coming up in jan and have Ben tested for so many things all negative.

A friend of mine just followed up with San Roman after an 8 week loss of a normal-boy pregnancy and he recommended prednisone and lovenox "empirically" (just to see if it helps since it's harmless). But he doesn't do testing per se.
Other immune options are to do a phone consult and send bloods away (by mail) to Kwak-Kim in Chicago or to let SIRM work you up even if you don't plan to get treated there (you don't have to tell them that).
IMHO from what I've read and heard from doctors, they do believe that PGD-normal embryos sometimes are not "healthy" enough to grow because of the cell itself not being able to produce the energy it takes to turn into a baby even if the chromosomes are normal. Low AMH would be connected to that, and the only way to really find out is to grow out to day-5 and see if they have the resources to go to blast.
But it's that 20-week loss...did they figure out why that happened (Ready2go)?? How awful

I have implantation issues. We missed the window last time, so although I had fresh embryos, we waited one month and did a FET.

Thanks for checking in. I had a consult with Dr. Keningsberg at LIIVF and have another with Dr. Kofinas in a week to discuss a lot of bloodwork he's been running on me over the past month.
Dr. K. had some really interesting things to say. He suggested that since I can conceive naturally, DH and I could/should try for 2 or 3 cycles before approaching IVF again. He would do the 5 day transfer, for the reason you listed above.
He basically told us that when a person is pregnant 4 or 5 times (like me), the odds are that a miscarriage will be among them, especially for my age bracket (38). I don't know that there is really an explanation for why I had a triploidy, except for the explanation I keep getting and hating - bad luck. DH and I have the right # of chromosomes; in this case, it was most likely 2 sperm hitting 1 egg. It doesn't mean it will happen again.
He had some theories on why my 3 FET's failed....and not once did he mention my low AHM. It seems that my former RE may not have handled my case that well.
I am seeking Kofinas's help because I want to rule out any other possible issues that may prevent implantation...I am convinced there is more to my story. In the meantime, I am taking all of the supplements he recomended: COQ10, Fish Oil, etc (there are like 5 or 6). I will keep you posted.

I would definitely go for immune testing. You could have elevated NK cells. So sorry your cycle didn't work out I go to Dr. Wang at SIRM and they are phenomenal and do all the immune testing.

I had it a year ago and Dr. Kofinas is rechecking my levels. Hoping he finds something, as weird as that sounds! Thank you
