If you are taking I-95 home, stop in Old Saybrook- which is one town over from Essex, on your way back to NY. Cuckoo's Nest has delicious mexican food. Old Saybrook also has pizza works, which is awesome for kids. The upstairs seating area is surrounded my model trains.

How much are you looking to spend? I prefer eating in Westbrook. It is a quick ride down CT 153/Plains Rd. Tons of restaurants. We like Lenny & Joe's Fish Tales. Very family friendly! There is also the Whole Enchilada and Brickhouse Pizzeria.

We just went on Thursday and we ate at a restaurant called Oliver's . It's right around the corner from the station.

I found this pizza place .6 miiles from the train station.

Called Centerbrooke pizza. Small, we were 8 people, took up 2 tables.
pizza was surprisingly delicious as were chicken nuggets.

they had other things on menu also.

Was wortht it!

How is the ride? We have 7pm reservations. Do we need to get a hotel?

does anyone have any feedback on the Griswald inn?

We always stay in a hotel. Its a lot of traveling for one day for my kids. And if you have a 7pm start you wont be out of there until at least 8:15 or later. then its an hour to ferry, an hour and 15 minutes on ferry - then whatever your commute home is.
