Elm Avenue in Coram is GREAT. They up the ante each year. My kids love it.
They have a FB page this year. Elm Avenue Dancing Lights Show

I'm in Brooklyn so we go to Dyker Heights and/or Mill Basin. Dyker is really out of control now though. The last two years I've even seen tour buses going there. Never used to see that before. It is pretty amazing though.

Bayport has a drive through light show. It is not houses but scenes. A lot of fun! I recommend going on the earlier side as the line gets long.

Re: where do you go to see houses lit up?
DH is from Bensonhurst so we always go to Dyker Heights. We also stop by two houses in Ozone Park ion Pitkin Avenue on the way to BK. They aren't anywhere near as crazy as the ones in Dyker and it's only the two but I grew up two blocks away and my whole family would walk their every Christmas so it brings me back to my childhood when we go.
We usually will just drive around our neighborhood too to see all the houses.
