We don't even have a contract date and our buyers are already sending their mail to my address

Is this normal? Closing will be more than a month out and we don't even have the exact date yet. But for now, do I have to contact my realtor to get the buyer back her mail? And I have to do this for around 5-6 weeks!

I have another question as well-

We are planning on changing our addresses so that our mail goes to my parents temporarily.
Do I go to the post office & give them the new address? And contact credit card companies, insurance companies, who else?
tia!

you should be telling your realtor or lawyer. i tried planning my cable transfer and got yelled at. lol

you can do the change of address for the post office online, but it costs $1.

I wouldn't care of the buyers are sending mail to you. Sounds to me like they have no intention on backing out. A good thing.

Some paperwork like insurance may go to the new address anyways by default.

Yes, they def have no intention & I am glad but they are sending bills here & car insurance mail. I have to get it back to them now since I'm sure it's urgent. I just find it annoying especially if I have to do this for weeks. I'll guess I'll contact my agent.

Re: We don't even have a contract date and our buyers are already sending their mail to my address

This happened to me as well. Homeowners that we contracted for our new home automatically sent it to the new home address, which was ridiculous b/c it was very important and the sellers didn't think to get it to us.Chat Icon

Contact your attorney- they should not be sending their mail to your address. They can have all insurance papers sent to their current address all they have to do is let the insurance company know that they DO NOT want information sent to the property that they are planning to buy.

That is pretty ballsy if you ask me. Def call the lawyer. Is it important mail (bills, etc.) or junk?

Re: We don't even have a contract date and our buyers are already sending their mail to my address

I am sure they didn't have it sent there on purpose. People would not know that an insurance company would do this. I would never think an insurance company I chose for my new property would send papers to my new address before I even lived there, but it happened to me. Just simply contact them through their attorney and let them know. It could be something important that they need asap. It happens.

that's ridiculous - now YOU have to be responsible for them getting their mail for the next month and a half?
Call your lawyer.

Me too. And in our case, it was a document that said that the insurance company was CANCELLING our insurance due to lifted sidewalks. Nice to get that piece of paper only one day before my closing and to have to scramble on closing day to find new insurance. So to the OP, make sure you get the papers to them. It could be really important.

Re: We don't even have a contract date and our buyers are already sending their mail to my address

this is completely normal - I have never had anyone in my 4 years of doing this call me or their lawyer to complain

certain companies send the paperwork there automatically like the insurance company- it's beyond their control

Re: We don't even have a contract date and our buyers are already sending their mail to my address

It may not be their fault! Our homeowner's insurance was automatically sent to our house right after we acquired it. The owners just wrote on it to hold it until after the month we moved in to the post office.

If your new owners have their homeowner's bundled with car and life insurances, they might not be able to help it.
