Does your daycare have Santa come?

I've been seeing on fb how Santa comes to my friends kids daycares. They do story time, most have pictures. It's usually an employee or dad dressed up. My daycare has a new director and I was told she isn't going a Santa because they don't want to pay for the suit and
It won't be fair to the kids who don't celebrate Christmas
I'm a little annoyed because I think all of the other daycares, its a small chain does Santa. I'm asking on Mon.

Am I wrong in thinking that if one center does it that all centers should do it? I was going to post the question on their fb board but Dh said that's passive aggressive so I'm just going to ask on Mon.

My daycare does not. I am not surprised since not everyone who goes there celebrates Christmas

Santa does not come to my LO daycare and I think it would be inappropriate if he did honestly. Not all the kids celebrate Christmas so it would be odd for those kids to be hanging out with Santa and they definitely wouldn't take a picture with him. If I was non-Christian parent, I wouldn't like it so I can understand why your center wouldn't choose to do it.

It never even crossed my mind that a Santa would come to a daycare. Not everyone celebrates it, it could raise questions from kids (" how come he looks different from when we met him at the mall last week?"), some kids may be scared,,etc. personally, I'd rather be present when my child meets Santa.

Not all centers are the same. I wouldn't be offended or annoyed at all if my child went to a daycare where there wasn't a santa.

I am really surprised that a day care would have "Santa" come. Unless every child celebrated Christmas it just strikes me as something that should not be done. I am all for parents taking their children to see him on their own time. I also love story time. We are Jewish and there was a holiday house with Santa near us. I took my kids to it - not to meet him per say, but to enjoy the decorations and learn history. I was absolutely fine with them meeting santa, but it was not the main purpose of the trip. With that said, I would not be happy with Santa coming to my kids school.

No and it would never cross my mind that he should.

I think mine does but I wouldn't care if they didnt. I would understand since not all kids celebrate.

My daycare does teach about all the holidays though.

Mine does not. They do have a holiday party for all families and they have some characters come, like Frosty, who are not holiday specific.

Ok so I guess Santa coming to daycare isn't a common thing so I won't push it. Thanks for all the replies.

Ours does... our registration form has a section - do you have any religious view they want you to respect.

Most don't do it from what I've seen. This year my DD's pre-k is doing it because all of the parents got together and put it together with the directors approval.

Santa comes to our daycare. The kids love it and talk about it every year. The parents sneak in a present and he talks to each one gives them a present then leaves.

They also light the hanukah candles and sing hanukah songs. We don't celebrate hanukah and it doesn't bother me. I love that my 3 year old knows something I don't know.

I think he came last year to DS' class because his teacher knew a Santa but, otherwise, no.

They have their holiday party on Monday and I'm having a little party for DS' 4th b-day there on Friday. They are not lacking in holiday celebrations.

Our daycare has a huge Christmas party for all the kids and parents every year. Santa always comes to the party and hands out gifts to the kids.

The have their holiday show on friday at 5pm. (daycare is open until 6PM)
After the show, santa comes and gives out presents to the kids.
As this daycare is basically in williamsburg, i am sure many kids do not celebrate christmas. i don't know if any parents complained, but since the show and santa are at the end of the day, they can always pick up their children and avoid santa.

i think it's nice the kids get a party and gifts. i don't really see santa (in this context anyway) as a religious figure. he's just a nice guy with a beard who gives presents to kids. not like anyone sits there an explains the actual story of Saint Nicholas, who btw, not a major saint in the church. just another one of the hundreds of saints we can look to for inspiration.

i was worried that my 3 year old DS may be confused with seeing two santas, but since he already said all the santas he saw are fake, not too worried.

Ours does and gives each child a book.
