Just started clomid for first time and have some questions
Hi ladies! So I just got my script for clomid and started day 1 of it yesterday. When I saw my RE yesterday he told me to come back next Thursday morning for bloodwork and sono and to see when I'll be getting my IUI. When I left the office I started thinking that next Thursday will be my CD 11 and I'm worried that what if i ovulate or surge before then? Is it typical to go back so late after taking clomid? I thought that I would be monitored more frequently for some reason. I'm nervous because I typically get a positive opk on cd 11 I've even gotten it as early as cd 10 in the past. Should I call my RE and talk to him abt this? I'm just so new to all of this and I'm so nervous, I don't want to mess this cycle up. Also does clomid mess with ovulation? would it make me ovulate later? Thanks ladies!

I used to go for my first check after 5 days of Clomid. So If I started on CD3, I'd go back CD9.
How long is your cycle usually? If you have a longer cycle, that may be why they are waiting until CD11.
Clomid never changed my O date. It would just help me get more follies for my O

Clomid should not change when you ovulate, only how strong you ovulate/number of follies.
Most people surge farther in their cycle so that's why they're probably having you come back at CD 11 (and that is early, anyway). I always surged early so I'd take Clomid CD 3-8 and then go back in on CD 10. If you're worried, just call and talk to them. To them, it's really not a big deal if you come in for an extra day of monitoring, so I"m sure they'll be open to having you come in earlier.

Sometimes clomid can extend your cycle. That being said, this past cycle the RE had me come in on CD 9 for monitoring then start OPKs on CD 10. I surged on CD 14, IUI was CD 15. If you think you may surge before, i would definitely discuss it with your doctor. They are there to answer your questions!
If they still insist on CD 11 then you could always start OPKs earlier for your peace of mind.

Thanks ladies for responding! My cycle is always either 27 or 28 days long. I know I surge probably earlier than most so that's prob why he told me to come in on cd 11. But I called him this morning and explained my situation and of course my worries lol so he told me to just come in on cd 9 instead. I feel much better now :) thanks again!

This was actually another one of my questions this morning, I had asked the nurse if I should still do opk's now that I'm beginning treatment and she said no because they'll be monitoring me. It's just all so confusing, I mean I know every practice differs a little but I feel like I should be doing opk's. do most of your doctors instruct you ladies to still use opk's? Or not really?

It may depend on individual patients. I had success my first IUI with clomid and OPKs. So now second time around we are doing the same. I still go in for monitoring and blood work, but instead of getting more blood work to track when I would O, I just do the Clear Blue ovulation kit at home. It worked for me last time, hoping it works this time again!

I didn't ovulate until CD 19 on Clomid.

I think it depends more on whether on past blood tests, did the Dr confirm that you ovulate on your own? When I went through my IUIs with Clomid, I never used a trigger shot since the Dr knew my body ovulated with each monitored cycle. I was told to use the OPKs every day starting on day 5- I have the same exact cycle as you as well and had a total of 2 IUIs. I am like clockwork and ALWAYS ovulated on day 11/12 and always got AF on day 27/28. My 2nd cycle for IUI, the clomid extended my LP and I had high fertility for a longer period of time before I got my surge- so yeah, clomid can change your cycle a little. My advice would be test w/ first morning urine but test in the evening as well. With my 2nd cycle, I got the positive surge on my 14th day in the evening. It was very odd but the Dr still wanted me for IUI the next day.

This is my first cycle with fertility treatments so he has no past labs to go by. But my GYN has confirmed through several blood tests that I indeed ovulate on my own. Our cycles are definitely the same that's so funny! For some reason my RE gave me a script for ovidrel ( trigger shot) which I thought was kind of weird since I do ovulate on my own, but I figured maybe he wants me to use it so that they can better plan my ovulation and time it with the IUI. Idk I'm still so new to all of this and it's confusing. I will ask him abt the trigger shot when I see him on Christmas Eve for my sono.
ETA: I am still definitely going to do the opk and yes I have also always tested both in morning and evening as well.

The ovidrel will make sure all follies release and helps with timing. In clomid iui cycles I was monitored starting cd12.
Like others said, definitely of your OPK's. They aren't monitoring you enough not to use them (ie I go in every three days, every other day, then every day as O gets closer - so I don't use them).
