Anyone make stromboli?- question added on bottom

I had some yesterday and I'm craving more lol! Do I just use basic pizza dough and cover with meat and cheese and roll up and bake? Recipes greatly appreciated!

Yup. The pills bury pizza dough usually works good.

Roll it out, layer all over the sides. Pepperoni, cheese, ham, whatever you like. Roll up and bake.

Yum. I'm making it tomorrow I think. Missed it This year!

Awesome, thanks! Just to make sure- cover the whole thing with the meat and cheese? Like a pizza?

Re: Anyone make stromboli?

I use pizza dough that you either get in deli or cheese department of supermarket, some even sell it frozen. There is also a frozen brand, NY something? That I use too. You can see if your local pizza place will sell you dough.

Let it sit on counter. If it keeps shrinking in, it's not warm enough yet. Spread it out to around the size of a cookie sheet. Fill with whatever you like. Roasted peppers & cheese is a house favorite, my girls like pepperoni & cheese, saussage & cheese too, but you really can't go wrong.

Start rolling, sealing the edges as you roll. I brush with an egg wash & sprinkle some garlic powder & cornmeal on top. Bake.

It's a regular in our home, at least weekly my DDs request it for dinner, & it's not a holiday or event without it.

Re: Anyone make stromboli?

You want to have great dough. Go to your local pizzeria and ask for them. Avoid supermarket brand. I boil my sausage first then slice them with onions red and yellow peppers and shredded mozzarella cheese. I'll also do a vegetarian with broccoli, mushrooms, spinach and shredded mozzarella. Key is the perfect dough. Forgot to mention brushing the dough with extra virgin olive oil in and out.

Re: Anyone make stromboli?

I get dough from a local pizzeria. Roll it out into a rectangular shape and then layer sliced pepperoni, genoa salami, and provolone, lengthwise. Leave about a half inch to an inch on each side. Roll up long-ways, brush with melted butter, and bake at 350 for about 30 minutes. I make it every Superbowl Sunday and it's always one of the first things to go!

OK, got my dough and going to try this out! If I bake it tonight do I just throw it in the oven to reheat tomorrow night? Should I wrap in foil?

ETA- just made the meat one- pepperoni, salami, soppressata provolone and mozzarella one with dough from my local pizzeria. OMG delicious! I have a spinach/broccoli/cheese one in the oven now. So excited!

Re: Anyone make stromboli?- question added on bottom

I have never made one and these all sound delish.
How long does it bake, and at what temp ?
With a salad, sounds like something different for dinner.

Yup, came out awesome and that's exactly what we said. This with a salad is going into our dinner rotation. We will try different meats/cheeses. I baked at 350 for about 1/2 hr. or until golden. I had extra dough so I made one to freeze. Hoping it works well.

You ladies have inspired me.

Since I am home for the next two days, I decided Stromboli tonight for dinner. Ventured out and bought pizza dough, will probably make a sausage, roasted red pepper, ricotta and mozzarella cheese one for my meat loving DH.

I was inspired also! I make my own dough, so I did that and filled it with pepperoni and mozzarella...I braided the top and they came out awesome! I can't wait to try a few more varieties this weekend!
