55+ over florida retirement communities

Trying to get get some Info for my parents. Does anyone know anything about the 55 and over florida retirement communities? They live in NY and are very active and would like a place with a lot of activities where it is a "youngish" 55 plus. TIA

Re: 55+ over florida retirement communities

I feel like all my IL's friends have a home in Florida where they stay all winter and some of my parent's friends. I don't know much about them, but heard many are beautiful and everyone is 100% happy with it. Communities are great, grounds beautiful and well maintained and lots of activities.

They are all in their 60's and still "young." Meaning big social lives, going out a lot with friends for dinners, drinks, shows, playing activities together like mahjong, basketball, book clubs, etc.

The whole state is a retirement community lol.
Any ideas what areas they want to look in? Or at least east/west coast?

Kings Point, Delray Beach.

My grandparents have had a place there for about 30 years.

We have friends that retired to the Villages.
I will NEVER set foot in the Villages, not my cup of tea.
It's also mid-Florida, no where near the beaches of either coast.

Most developments offer a mini-vacation for a low cost. Sort of a trial run to see if you like the area/place. All you have to do is give them some of your time for a presentation.

Mine have had one there for about 20 years. My grandmother really likes it there.

My grandparents lived in Century Village in Pembroke Pines (Ft. Lauderdale area) for a good 10 years. They liked it there a lot.

After my Grandfather passed away, my Grandma moved to 'On Top of the World' in Ocala because her sister already had a home there, and she has never been happier. She absolutely loves it! There is always something to do. She met a new man there Chat Icon. She's extremely active (she's 68) and goes out almost every night. She has a better social life than me, by far. And my kids love to go visit GG (as they call her) because she has a golf cart (it's the common way to get around there since the property is so large).

It's definitely worth looking into if they're looking to live in Central Florida. The only drawback of 'On Top of the World' is that it's about an hour ride to the closest airport. But my Grandma says it's worth it. Chat Icon

Century Village in Boca is OLD! Definitely not what I would envision for "younger" seniors.

I am currently visiting my parents at this community. They are renting here until April and it is very old here. I would not recommend it for someone looking for a young 55 and community, as this is on the older side. They can't wait until their lease is up.

I would suggest looking at regular gated communities. My parents are in weeki Wachee which is north of Tampa. There are family in their community but its mostly older. They love it. They have more of a social life than when they lived up here.

Re: 55+ over florida retirement communities

I think you need to narrow down the area and decide on a price point. As someone else said- the whole state is practically retirement communities. And, its a big state.

My parents have a house there and we have been quite a few times. The town squares are great, lots of restaurants and tons of things to do. My parents go down a few times a year, lots of people drive around in golf carts.

Century Village and Kings Point are older communities. My parents live in Boynton Beach in Avelon Esates. They love it there. There are several newer communites in Boynton Beach.

Re: 55+ over florida retirement communities

Tell them to check out all the Valencia's (Valencia Cove, Valencia Reserve, Valencia Shores, Pointe...) they are all over 55 and brand new, great locations in Boynton Beach & Lake Worth. Not sure what they want to spend but if they build new, these start at the $400's... the Valencia communities that are already built may be less.

Definitely not "Cemetery Village" if they are active. My grandparents owned there and it was boring!
