Sorry to crash...AMH question
hey ladies...I'm not ready to TTC but my sister was having fertility issues and told me to get my AMH levels checked to see if i have the same problem as her. her level was .6 and i just got the call today that mine is .27. I'm 33 and I have a 4 year old...i got pregnant with him after being off the pill for 3 months. Mine seems ridiculously low!! but I'm also on the pill (since having my son)...my sister wasn't on the pill when she had hers checked.
but i'm reading online that the pill doesn't affect the numbers. does this sound right? does anyone know if the pill actually affects these numbers? i'm still waiting for the doctor to call me back. i'm hoping the nurse read it wrong and it should really be 2.7!

Sorry to crash...AMH question
I had mine checked before I got pregnant with my daughter. Mine was .91 at 35 years old. The way my doctor explained it was that we're born with x number of eggs, and each year we lose a certain amount, regardless of birth control pills or pregnancies. He said it's like a conveyor belt and there is no way to predict or control how fast the eggs will die off. At my age, average AMH should be been 1.2. With a .91 level, the plan for me was to start letrozole and IUI (had been trying TTC for 6 months at this time). With all that said, we ended up conceiving the month before I was to start letrozole.
When do you follow up with your doctor?

Re: Sorry to crash...AMH question
Your AMH is your ovarian reserve. Drs like to see the range to be over a 1. Under that, t means your egg reserve is low. Mine is low due to having endometriosis and it damaged my ovaries so I have limited eggs left. My amh is .76. I have a DS who is 7 but am having a very difficult time getting pregnant for #2. Some Drs believe it's due to having low reserve.

Re: Sorry to crash...AMH question
As far as I was told, the pill does not really affect AMH but I could be wrong. I believe it measures your egg reserve (or ability to make future eggs). If your number is in fact .27, that is not to say you CAN"T get pregnant, it just might take you a little longer... Normal is between 1-3... On the IF board i'm sure you will find people with your level who have gone on to have completely healthy babies...
Good luck!

Sorry to crash...AMH question
I was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure at 36. My AMH was 0.24. I did a lot of research and met with my RE to discuss my results and options. As the pp stated AMH is a measure of ovarian reserves- so a low number means you have few eggs remaining- fewer eggs= fewer chances to conceive. What I was told was I did not have any hormonal issues that would make it harder to get pregnant just fewer opportunities. My RE said birth control, diet and lifestyle have little influence on AMH. FWIW--DH and I adjusted our timeline for starting a family and I became pregnant the second month TTC. I did not have any intervention since all of my other tests were OK. Good luck!

I would not wait too long.. just my opinion. For me, the pill would have improved my amh bc the hormones suppress endometriosis so the damage would not have been severe and I would have a better reserve of eggs. I don't know if you have endo, so I can't tell you if it's the same for you.

Based on my AMH level I was advised not to wait more than a year to TTC. It was recommended that we start ASAP and try naturally for 3-4 months if we did not conceive we would have moved on to IUI for a couple of months then IVF. I was given the option to have IVF done to freeze my eggs for later use. Wait to talk to your doctor and see what they advise.

Re: Sorry to crash...AMH question
so the nurse just called me back. she said the doctor said i'm within normal levels. she said it's based on the lab results and anything under a 6.9 is healthy for a 33 year old woman. i said i don't get how that's possbile so she said she'll talk to the doctor again and call me back.
now my doctor is the NP gyno in the practice. Should i ask that the OB look over these results?

I guess what I meant was to say that being on the pill would have kept me at a normal amh level in my 20's. I was not on the pill for the whole time and therefore the endo damaged stuff causing my amh to drop. The pill can not improve amh but if you have endo, it will suppress hormones so you don't have damage, hence your amh going down. I agree.. speak to a Dr about your chances. Being that I am 32, my RE's are all optimistic that I will have more kids but it will just take longer than most women. I have done multiple IUI's and a failed IVF. My current RE believes I won't get many eggs from IVF but hoping for a few good ones. We are going to start a cycle this month to freeze my eggs so that I will have a chance to have babies in a few years in case my reserve is gone.

Re: Sorry to crash...AMH question
Does the AMH show in a hormonal test? I asked for a hormonal test through my obgyn and was just told my testosterone was slightly elevated.

The dr said your amh of .27 is within normal limits? That's doesn't sound right at all.
My obgyn doesn't believe amh means anything so I am currently looking to change practices. Look up amh levels by age. .27 is very low. I was .20 and went up to .60 after endo surgery. Still very low
ETA: maybe they are talking about FSH ?

ok the nurse called back. she said she confirmed with the OB's that my numbers are actually perfect. she said anything close to 1 is bad. i'm guessing there are different charts then?
either way...thank you so much for the responses!

i asked her that lol she said 0.27 and the closer to 1 the worse the number. so i'm assuming they go off a different chart.

ITA, it doesnt sound right. I had an AMH of 5 and Dr. B told me that I had the highest he had ever seen in his career.

Re: Sorry to crash...AMH question
I actually receive a phone call from my dr and she said that my amh level is 0.63 which she said is low. She said for my age 33 should be over 1.
I would call your dr as 0.27 is low from what i understand after my conv with dr

Sorry to crash...AMH question
I think you need to call the doctor back or leave a message for someone to call you to clarify. A .27 is a very low AMH level and for them to say the closer it is to 1.0 the worse is incredibly odd (and from what I've read and what my OBGYN and RE have told me, wrong).
Optimal -- 4.0 to 6.8 Satisfactory -- 2.2 to 4.0 Reduced -- 0.3 to 2.2 Undetectable -- 0.0 to 0.3 Above Normal -- > 6 (usually an indicator of PCOS)

Re: Sorry to crash...AMH question
Okay you must not have done an amh test. 1 and above is acceptable. Over 6 is borderline PCOS. Under 1 is low ovarian reserve or DOR. If they are serious that .27 are perfectly fine, I suggest you find a new OB! Their response is scaring me!
