Nurses with great infertility benefits

I currently work in a hospital that offers minimal infertility coverage. Basically my IUI's are fully covered but if I were to need IVF I would have to pay OOP. I'm seriously considering getting a second job part time just for the additional benefits. I've been researching but haven't found anything that catches my eyes. For you nurses out there that have IVF coverage can you please tell me what facility you work in? Thank you!

I posted a similar question a few months ago, here's the link...

If you are an RN...Insurance question

From what I've been reading Stony Brook has THE BEST IF coverage, and stay away from CHS, they have no IF benefits.

Good Luck :)

Re: Nurses with great infertility benefits

Thanks! I know that SB has one of the best infertily plans but I've been checking their site forever now and none of their positions would work with my schedule. I've even considered going there full time and leaving my currenty job but I'm still unsure if I definitely want to do this. I was wondering what other facilities out there offer good infertility coverage.

For any of you that work at SB as a nurse I was wondering what the hours are for part timers. Is it 2 days a week or more than that? I would even consider doing this.

Nurses with great infertility benefits

I know Stony Brook has a great plan, but I wasn't working there when I needed it. I had 1199 and they have no coverage. I was told they weren't even going to cover my HSG, but they ended up covering it for some reason. Stinks!

Re: Nurses with great infertility benefits

I found this...Southside is part of NSLIJ...

"I'm an RN at Southside and our insurance is Oxford United through NYSNA. As for infertility, Oxford gives you $5000 towards fertility Treatment. You can either choose to apply it towards medications or actual procedures. They cover 5 IUI treatments as long as you are on meds (IE: Clomid/injectibles, etc). For us, we chose to hold the $5k towards potential IVF. We have been paying OOP for clomid and trigger (not too bad) but have been holding off on injectibles due to the increase in cost. If this IUI doesn't work (we're only 4 days post IUI) we are moving to IVF which is going to end up costing us about 1/2 because we haven't touched the 5K. The major issue is once you apply it to either meds or procedure, you cannot apply any remaining money to the other choice."

PBMCs ins is also through NYSNA and has a $5000 lifetime max on IF benefits.

I work for NSLIJ....I believe MrsGoldie transferred my information above!! THANKS!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am actually starting my IVF cycle now. To be honest, coverage is not as great as I had hoped, but it could be worse. The procedure portion is $6500 and our insurance gives you 5K (lifetime) so we have one shot.... and only pay $1500 OOP. As for the medications, I thought this would be my biggest expense however, thanks to the AMAZING ladies on this site, I have acquired all meds necessary to complete an ENTIRE IVF cycle!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon So OOP for us should be less then 2K...which is a hell of a lot better then the anticipated 5-8K....

Just an FYI though, I don't think you get benefit coverage through NYSNA if you are PT??? I remember vaguely looking into it...

Hope that helps!

I'm not a nurse but I work in the NSLIJ system and that is accurate for me...3 IVF cycles with an 80/20 co-insurance (I pay 20%) of each procedure. I think my last fresh cycel was in the realm of 2500 all-in. I chose to pay OOP for my frozen cycle since it's pretty inexpensive compared to fresh. I wanted to save the last two paid-for cycles in case I needed another fresh.

Thank you! Do you know if that just stands for the hospital employees or if those benefits are the same for other NSLIJ facilities?

I work in another facility, not the hospital - so those are the benefits for non-hosp employees. I'm not sure if/how things differ amongst different positions. It may be worth applying/interviewing - at the interview you can ask for a packet on the health ins coverage. Once you read through you can make your decision. In any event, it's a great place to work IMO.

I am not a nurse and have no clue if this can even work but could you get a job as a school nurse. I am a teacher and have empire govt plan. All my iui's are covered plus I get $50,000 for IVF meds are not part of the $50,000 either. Drs at my practice have said empire govt is the best plan for infertility. Plus I don't pay a copay unless I pregnant.

I've thought abt this because my sister is a teacher and has the same plan as you and it's amazing! Thank God for her she never needed to use it for fertility, I tell her all the time the wrong sister has the awesome insurance lol. But being a school nurse would drastically lower my salary and I just can't take that pay cut right now. But SB has the same plan as teachers so I think I'm just going to try to get in with them! Thanks for the heads up though!!

I totally understand. Good luck with SB... I really hope it works out for you. With all the stress involved with infertility to begin with it sucks that insurance makes it worse!!!
