Mama's in Copaigue
I live so close but have never been there to sit down and eat. Is it good for a b-day dinner? Any particular dish recommendations?
Ok,thought I'd give a review. We actually ordered in because I didn't feel like bringing kids to the restaurant. It was a complete success! My dad who is VERY picky, especially with Italian, raved about it and actually now wants it for his bday dinner! Here's a quick breakdown of what we got. I'll say it was a huge order and the portions were tremendous. We literally ate it for 3-4 days! I was leary about calling in such a big order but they got it perfect and through in a 2 liter of soda. We will be returning.
- beef short ribs with parm mashed potatoes and broccoli rabe
-ala vodka with meat-
- chicken parm
- cavatelli with bolognese and peas
-chicken franchese with spinach
-another chicken spinach, mushroom dish
-lobster egg rolls
-caesar salad
- calamari
- fennel sausage with broccoli rabe
Everything was great. My dad LOVED the sausage with b. rabe. The other huge hit was the short ribs.

They have very good food there. I used to eat there all the time and still do when I visit NY. It's fine for a bday dinner, never had a bad meal.

I went there a few times and thought it was ok. Nothing to write home about.

I think they are really good Italian but the crowd frequently keeps me away.
Not sure if they do reservations.

I've been there because an old friend raved about it.
Meh. It didn't knock me over.

I used to work there back in the day, I grew up in Amityville. Food is fine but they are HORRIBLE people to work for.
I always did like the Chicken Giuseppe, though.

Interesting.
I used to waitress back in the day (not around here) and always thought restaurants were the worst businesses to work for, so I'm sure that's not unique to Mama's.
I waitressed at a restaurant in a hotel once and the food wasn't that good but you would think they were world renowned chefs the way they carried on. And the manager used to try to proposition us too. I remember the owner and how awful he used to treat his wife, in front of everyone that worked there.

The food was better when they were smaller imo. Go down the road to Ramio's in Amityville. Their food is better.

Thanks everyone. We do love Raimo's but I feel like so many people I talk to love Mama's! Thought it would be nice and easy with the kids too.

I've been meaning to check out Raimo's myself for awhile.
I've heard from real Italians that the food is delicious.

Not a fan of Mama's at ALL. The owner and his sons are just nasty people and the food is mediocre at best. Raimo's is really good.

I like the chicken night at Mama's because it's inexpensive, they have a lot of good options, and it's very quick (because they're turning tables so quickly). They used to have a better menu - I loved their chicken sorrentino, but they did away with it and now I'm not a huge fan.

Only went there once, but I thought the food was extremely good. However, each menu item is overpriced by $2-$5, the service leaves much to be desired and they don't take AMEX.
