Would/did you move DC #1 to bigger room before new baby?

Our son is almost 2 and we are planning on having (hoping to have) another baby next year. Other than the master, we have two very unequal sized bedrooms. Like one is a small square and the other is a big rectangle. Currently DS is in the small room, which I like as a nursery bc it seems cozier and already had blackout shades installed.

What are your thoughts on keeping DS in the small room but just upgrading his furniture, and moving the baby furniture to the big room? I'm thinking one advantage to this is that he is so used to his room already; results in less change to adapt to. Or does it make more sense to move DS to the big room (several months before the next baby comes, of course) since at this point he has a lot of toys and he can spread out more? We'd make it a big deal for him so he didn't feel evicted. He is also still in the crib, so we would be putting him in a full sized bed at the same time we move him to the big room, if we go that route.

Appreciate any insight from experienced parents! Thanks.

When I was pregnant with #2 we made a big deal about moving ds to his big boy room. He helped pick out the colors the decor even helped paint a little. We moved him to his new room a few months before his brother was born. Dh didn't want to redo 2 rooms and I loved our nursery so it just made sense to move our son. He had no issues.

Eta. We changed from crib to bed in his nursery before moving him to his new room. He was probably in the bed 2 months before he changed rooms

Our kids were in the same room (1.5 yrs apart) until DD was 2 & DS 3.5. Kept other room as guest bedroom for people helping out.

My older still sleeps in a crib. He has no room ownership issues.

I'd say wait & see.

I was pregnant with dd #2 when dd was 6. We thought we were shifting things around in the house which never ended up happening. I gave dd a choice, she could move into the other room (which would have been the same size, just wanted to offer her a change if she wanted it) or to stay in her room. She chose to stay. So I just got her a new bedset and a picture for the wall and re-arranged her room. Maybe your dc would be too young to make that choice though. I am a nervous nelly when it comes to change so if it were me, I'd probably leave things the way they are.
